‘Our kids are on Corrie and Emmerdale – we’re not pushy parents, it’s all their talent’

Parents of Coronation Street and Emmerdale stars Amelia, Will and Bella Flanagan have spoken openly on what it’s like to have three soap star children.

Emmerdale actress Amelia, 15, and Corrie twins Will and Bella, 12 have been carving out their acting careers for the past six years.

Though their mum and dad Rachel and Chris have revealed how they juggle their busy schedules and state that they are not “pushy parents” despite their kids’ success.

Whilst talking to OK!, dad Chris, 39, shared his concerns about being braned as such and said: “Yes, that has been a reservation, thinking people might say, “Here they are, pushing their kids” or thinking we’re making a fortune from them. But that’s absolutely not the case.”

Mum Rachel, 39, also added: “I’m getting better at not feeling like I have to justify myself to people. Casting directors see hundreds of kids, and it’s ridiculously hard to get a part, and it’s also difficult to last this long. So they are only where they are because of them, nothing Chris and I have done. Why wouldn’t they take these opportunities?”

Their kids can work anything from zero – five days a week and their busy schedules are a lot for the parents to manage. The couple spends much of their time ferrying the children from school to the ITV sets – but says they are helped greatly by an “amazing” support unit.

Amelia joined the cast of Emmerdale to play the daughter of Donna Windsor and Marlon Dingle, April Windsor when she was just five. Four years on, Will and Bella joined Corrie to play cousins Joseph Brown and Hope Dobbs.

Though Rachel reveals they certainly didn’t get their acting skills from them – but says she is a big soap lover. She added: “We love that they all play such different roles. It’s hard to find a good part for a young actor but they’ve all got brilliant, brilliant characters – who are very different to them in real life!”
