Piers Morgan brands Prince William ‘ridiculous’ for not attending Women’s World Cup

Piers Morgan has hit out at Prince William after he and his daughter wished good luck the Lionesses good luck ahead of the Women’s World Cup Final in Australia this Sunday (August 20).

On Saturday (August 19), the Prince of Wales took to the social media platform X – formerly known as Twitter – where he revealed he wouldn’t be attending the historical match.

Sat on a bench beside his eight-year-old daughter Princess Charlotte who held a football, he said: “Lionesses I want to send you a huge good luck for tomorrow.

“We’re sorry we can’t be there in person but we’re so proud of everything you’ve achieved and millions you’ve inspired here and around the world.

“So go out there tomorrow and really enjoy yourselves,” he finished as Princess Charlotte added: “Good luck lionesses.”

It’s fair to say the former Good Morning Britain presenter was disappointed by their decision and certainly didn’t hold back as he shared his thoughts online.

Sharing the clip with his millions of followers online, the 58-year-old broadcaster wrote: “With respect, YRH [Your Royal Highness], you should have got on a plane.

“Ridiculous that the Queen of Spain is attending the World Cup Final to support her nation’s team, and you won’t be there despite being President of the FA.”

And he wasn’t the only person who was disappointed at the royal family’s decision not to attend the football match online.

One user agreed: “I bet he would be at the Men’s World Cup final… This is terrible!” as another echoed: “Absolute disgrace he’s not there, I’m actually seething!”

A third pointed out: “I don’t often agree with you Piers but today I’ve agreed with two of your tweets for separate subjects! He should be there for sure, it’s an insult to our amazing #Lionesses.”

A fourth echoed: “Totally agree with Piers here. Why they don’t give any importance to the women’s national football team, who we all know is better than the men’s tea, [face palm emoji] come on @Lionesses!! #itscominghome.”

However some users supported the future King’s decision to stay in the UK during the match.

One user penned: !You don’t have to be there to support them !! What a ridiculous thing to say. Is the majority of the country not supporting them?!”

Another argued: “Then he’ll get criticised for the unnecessary jet flight by the woke.”

A third agreed: “Piers – It would be absurd for him to fly that far (carbon footprint) for a day. He has always fully supported the Lionesses and will likely have them over to celebrate when they get back.

“He would literally be damned if he did and now damned since he didn’t.”
