Piers Morgan says ‘it’s not worth it’ as he breaks silence on Holly Willoughby exit

Piers Morgan has thrown his support behind his former daytime colleague Holly Willoughby following her shock exit from This Morning after 14 years.

The 58-year-old opened up about the Holly’s departure after the presenter confirmed she would not be returning to the ITV programme in an emotional statement. Speaking on his show, Piers Morgan Uncensored, the broadcaster told viewers: “It’s clearly shaken her so badly she’s walked away from one of the top jobs in television.”

He then referenced the recent Netflix documentary, Who Killed Jill Dando? which revisits the unsolved 1999 murder of beloved TV presenter Jill Dando. The dad-of-four continued: “With the Jill Dando documentary on Netflix right now… I really feel for her. I’ve known Holly a long time. [It’s] terrifying.”

Reflecting on Holly’s statement, where she explained she made the decision to step back because it was the best thing for her family, Piers added: “[The] last line said it all to me. This is because she has got young kids, she’s thinking, ‘My God this is not worth it, I’ve got one of the best jobs in telly, so what. There is some lunatic out there’.”

Sharing support for his friend, Piers went on: “I wish her all the best, she’s a great girl, Holly, I’ve known her a long time. Lot of fun with her over the years, what you see is what you get. She’s just a good laugh, a very talented broadcaster.”

The former Britain’s Got Talent judge then opened up about his own experience with death threats, explaining it “staggered” him when nothing was followed up by police. He said: “This kind of thing can freak people out and I completely understand it, I really do.

“She’s got a lovely family and she’s obviously just thought, ‘I’m done’… I have had them myself [death threats] and I tell you what nothing happened when I reported it and that still staggers me.

“To get specific death threats on my son’s Instagram, and to report it to the police and they were not able to actually file charges. Quite breath-taking.” Holly’s departure comes after a 36-year-old man was charged with plotting to kidnap and murder her.

Superintendent Tim Tubbs told The Sun: “This was an extremely fast paced investigation, with many of our officers working overnight to secure these charges.” He added: “The safeguarding of any victim is paramount and we will continue to prioritise this as the investigation proceeds.” The suspect will appear before Chelmsford Crown Court on November 3.
