One child star from 2009 holiday rom-com The Holiday says she was “forced out of acting” and now has a completely normal job after finding fame aged six.
Miffy Englefield played Sophie in the romantic film, the daughter to Jude Law’s character Graham. Starring A-listers including Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jack Black and John Krasinski, the film followed two women with men problems who do a house swap in each other’s country – and both fall in love with local men.
It was Miffy’s first acting job, although she went on to appear in various episodes of BBC medical soap Casualty from 2008 until 2010. She’s also appeared in TV series The Whistleblowers and short film Beautiful Enough, though her last role was in 2011.

Now 24, the actress is a mum to a three-year-old daughter, Frankie. She explained to The Sun that she was signed up to an acting agency by the age of four, because she was a “loud-mouthed kid”. She confessed that the atmosphere on set of The Holiday was “very, very natural”, and said she wasn’t treated any differently as a child actor.
She says the reason she stopped acting was because she looked older than her years, explaining: “It wasn’t really in my control. You don’t really want a 12-year-old who looks 16. So yeah, it was just a natural growth thing I grew up quite early in terms of my physical appearance.”
Instead, she worked as a barmaid for “quite a long time” after finishing school, and then became a mum when she was 21. Speaking about her daughter, she confessed: “I was about the same age as she is [when I got into acting], but she isn’t quite as pretentious as I was.
“I used to put on shows for random people in the street. I was pretty obnoxious and she hasn’t got quite that quality yet, which is good. I think she’s slowly getting into performing a little bit, I’m just not going to rush her. It’s all completely up to her.”
Meanwhile, Miffy’s on-screen sister Emma Pritchard – who played Olivia in the movie – hasn’t acted at all since The Holiday, and appears to keep a low profile on social media. Now 18, she’s seen wearing glasses in various pictures online, but little else is known about her.

It comes after fans spotted a rather gaping plot hole at the very end of The Holiday. Writing on X – formerly Twitter – one fan pointed out something majorly wrong with Jude’s dialogue in the script.
They said: “I am watching The Holiday and am I going mad, at the end of the movie Jude Law says ‘I have the girls on New Year’s Eve’ – sorry their mother is dead, who else would have them Jude?” Before adding: “Also I cannot, try as I might, get over the cringing void where the chemistry between Kate Winslet and Jack Black is supposed to be. This man is hell, stop telling her what films to watch, stop scatting at the shops, ask her a question you pig!!!”
