Nottinghamshire Police confirmed that a 31-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of murder. He remains in police custody.

Chief Constable Kate Meynell said: “This is an horrific and tragic incident which has claimed the lives of three people.

“We believe these three incidents are all linked and we have a man in custody.

“This investigation is at its early stages and a team of detectives is working to establish exactly what has happened.”

This Morning resumed five minutes after the ITV News coverage.

The presenter said: “We don’t know anything other than it is a major incident at the moment.”

She turned to the security expert Will Geddes to ask him on his thoughts.

He said: “For me the first thing I saw was this huge cordon that was put into effect and the buses and trams being diverted.

“And the fact that there were so many multi-agencies in attendance and the British military in attendance, would draw me to speculate that this is a terrorist motivated incident.”

Holly replied: “If what you’re saying is right, I think people who are in Nottingham right now would be feeling very very scared but also asking, ‘why this city?”

Fans on Twitter have plead with the show to ensure the incident is reported wit sensibility.

One person said: “Whatever you report about this please ensure nobody’s feelings are hurt.”
