This Morning’s Alison Hammond forces ‘naughty’ MP to apologise in awkward showdown

This Morning took a rather awkward turn during the latest episode after Alison Hammond called out Angela Rayner for vaping.

During Wednesday’s show (October 18), the Labour MP appeared on the programme to discuss the current state of the economy and her life in politics. But before Alison and her co-host Dermot O’Leary spoke to Angela about more pressing matters, Alison took the opportunity to call out the MP’s vaping habit.

Kickstarting the conversation, Alison quickly said: “And you’re a vaper, you naughty thing. I’ve heard you’ve been called a vape dragon.” Apologising profusely for her habit, Angela, 43, shared that she “will give up” vaping and explained that her children don’t support her smoking the e-cigarettes.

Angela, who admitted that she started vaping to quit smoking, said: “I’ve found it really difficult to get off the vape and I wish I could. I think that’s the thing with a lot of young people once they’re on these vapes, they can’t get off and it is a substance and we shouldn’t be giving it to our young people.”

After revealing that her children find it “disgusting”, Alison then said to Angela: “Like you said you were a smoker. That’s a better alternative than smoking.”

Angela replied: “It is, but I think it’s more addictive than smoking. So if you’ve never smoked and you think about going on the vape, please do not do it. I’ve given up smoking before and gone cold turkey and started again and I think vaping is more addictive.”

Alison then said: “There’s no end to it! With a cigarette it ends doesn’t it but with a vape, it carries on.”

But as they continued to discuss vaping fans thought the lecture went on for far too long and headed over to X, formerly known as Twitter to share their thoughts. One viewer penned: “Well, that wasn’t an overly elongated conversation about vaping.”

Another joked: “Angela Rayner on #thismorning to talk about The North, working people and a very obvious ‘do as I say, not as I do’ lecture on vaping.” While another said: “How long was that conversation about vaping? I made a cup of tea in that time.”

When sharing Labour’s plans to tackle the vaping crisis amongst young people across the UK Angela appeared to allude that they had no plans to ban the e-cigarettes. Instead, they will try to ensure that it doesn’t appeal to teens and young adults.
