A Place in the Sun fans devastated as guest’s husband dies just before moving into dream home

A Place in the Sun viewers were emotional as a buyer revealed her husband passed away before they could move into their dream home.

The Channel 4 property show returned this week with a new spin-off series. A Place in the Sun: What Happened Next follows the property experts as they catch up with house-hunters who bought their perfect place abroad.

Presenters including Laura Hamilton and Jasmine Harman return to the homes and get a glimpse of what their buyers’ lives are like living in the sun. In the latest episode, Sara Damergi caught up with Dawn Tucker, who first appeared on the show in 2014.

Dawn and husband Graham were on the hunt for a home in the Italian region of Le Marche. The couple didn’t purchase a house on the show, but bagged their dream place shortly after.

But in a tragic turn of events, Graham was diagnosed with terminal cancer after filming wrapped. The couple discovered the sale of their home was complete after returning from the hospital.

A tearful Sara wiped away her tears as Dawn confirmed Graham passed away shortly after. Despite the devastating loss, Dawn went ahead with the move to honour her late husband’s wishes.

She told Amanda: “One of the important things Graham said to me a few days before he died was, ‘Dawn, go and live the dream for both of us’.” The emotional scenes tugged on the heart strings of viewers as they headed to social media to share their thoughts.

One wrote: “OMG how heartbreaking. Dawn is amazing to have carried on with their dream.” A second gushed: “How amazing is Dawn,” as another echoed: “How inspiring is Dawn, so sad but so brave. Good for her.” Someone else agreed: “This is so sad. Really wasn’t expecting it.”

Dawn shared some words of advice for viewers, saying: “Whatever life throws at you, if it’s important enough, you can do it. And I’ve had support to pick me up and get me on my way again, my family came out and helped me loads in the beginning because the house was a mess.”
