Amanda Holden’s future on Britain’s Got Talent has seemingly been “confirmed”.
The 2024 series is yet to finish but it looks like fans will be seeing the judge on the panel for another two years after she put Simon Cowell on the spot live on air during Sunday’s (June 2) grand finale.
During magician Jack Rhodes’ performance, she cheekily asked Simon if she could “be on the show for next two years and an uplift” before adding “and with Alesha and Bruno”. However, Simon jokingly replied “yes to the first one and no to second”.
As the judges offered their feedback to Jack, Amanda, who has been part of BGT since it launched in 2004, pointed out once again that Simon can agreed a “two-year deal” before letting out a playful giggle.
It comes after Amanda sparked backlash from viewers as she arrived for the live final wearing a daring metallic gown held up by luck alone. Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one fan penned: “Considering it’s a family show…Amanda Holden wears the most inappropriate outfits!!! #BGT.” Another added: “What’s Amanda nearly wearing?? #bgt” A third person said: “I hope Amanda Holden is ok – she is dressed for open-heart surgery #BGT #BritainsGotTalent.”
It comes after Amanda was issued a stern warning over her outfit ahead of the BGT final. In 2020, Amanda received 235 Ofcom complaints for her plunging navy gown, which viewers slammed as being “too revealing” for a family programme. In 2017, a Julien MacDonald dress – costing a whopping £11,250 – also sparked fury with its low neckline, attracting 663 Ofcom complaints – the most complained about TV moment that year.
Ahead of the live final, Amanda was been warned not to “overshadow the talent on the show” when it comes to her fashion choices – in a bid to “minimise controversy”. Speaking exclusively to Daily Star, Dom Aldworth, Head of Brand Marketing at Slingo shared how Amanda is a notable figure on the show, not just for her judging “but also her often daring and glamorous outfits.”
He explained: “Over the years, her fashion choices have stirred quite a bit of controversy. The complaints typically revolve around the perceived inappropriateness of her attire for a family-oriented show. The show is ultimately about showcasing the talents of the contestants. If a judge’s attire is causing more conversation than the performances, it might be perceived as overshadowing the talent the show aims to highlight.
“While Amanda’s fashion is a part of her brand, it’s important to balance personal expression with the purpose of the show.” Dom went on to say how “a balanced approach for the final” could “help minimise controversy” as well as “ensure the spotlight stays on the deserving contestants”.
“This doesn’t mean she needs to forgo her flamboyant style, but rather adapt it in a way that aligns with the event’s nature and audience expectations.”
