She is one of the biggest rock singers of the early noughties with big hits such as Sk8er Boi and Complicated.
And Avril Lavigne is still wowing fans more than twenty years on with her non-stop bangers and ageless beauty. So much so that a conspiracy theory surfaced on online forums a few years ago that declared she had died and been replaced by a doppelgänger named Melissa.
It claims that the musician had become fed up with being a celebrity and hired a body double to stand in for her at public events. Some spectators theorise that the singer actually died between the release of her first album 2002’s Let Go and her second record Under My Skin in 2004.

They claim the record company decided to hire Melissa as Lavigne full-time to keep her legacy going. The rumours have been circulating since 2005 and are believed to have originated on a Brazilian fan website.
Unfortunately for Canadian singer, the theories have never died down, and if anything, have continued to garner attention from fans all over the world. Now, nearly two decades later, the blonde beauty has addressed the growing speculation in an interview with EW.
The singer immediately branded the idea “a dumb internet rumour” as she shared how fans views have changed about her over the years. She told the publication: “It’s just a dumb internet rumours and [I’m] flabbergasted that people bought into it.
“Isn’t that so weird? It’s so dumb. And I look the exact same. On one hand, everyone is like, ‘Oh my God, you look the same’, and on the other hand people are like, ‘Oh my God, she died’.”
The star previously spoke about why the rumour became so popular, Lavigne said that “people are just bored and need something to talk about”. It comes after the hitmaker opened up on what she’s looking for in a relationship following her split from Tyga.
During an appearance on Call Her Daddy podcast, she explained: “I think the most important thing is finding someone that you’re compatible with, because you could be two different great people.
“But if you’re not compatible, you’re not going to get along. It all just sounds cliche. Someone that is trustworthy, because if you don’t have that, you’re just never going to feel grounded in the relationship, and you’re going to be spinning.
“So that’s just not healthy.” Speaking about her former flames, Avril started: “Sometimes you just have to take that leap of faith and trust that if you’re not happy, it’s not a good relationship or a good situation, just get out.
“It’s OK to have time on your own in between if you need it. Just believe and hope that something greater is out there for you.”
