BBC Breakfast viewers were left scratching their heads when the regional news bulletins were conspicuously missing from the day’s programming.
While BBC Breakfast typically graces screens on BBC One, viewers found the Olympic events had pushed their favourite breakfast programme to BBC News and then to a stint on BBC Two.
Eagle-eyed audience members were left fuming by the absence of local news on Wednesday, and didn’t shy away from blasting their opinions on social media.
One miffed viewer blasted: “Oi, oi, where’s the local news, another casualty of the Olympics, #bbcbreakfast.” (sic)
Another chimed in: “If #bbcbreakfast have decided to drop all of their local news bulletins and local weather forecasts, how about mentioning it on the show.”
Queries and complaints continued to flood in, “@BBCBreakfast where’s the Local News bulletins gone? ” and echoed sentiments like “@BBCBreakfast what’s happened to the local news slots..?” reports the Mirror.
The confusion didn’t end there, with tweets like: “@BBCBreakfast What has happened to the regional news summaries? Have these been axed and if so, why? ” questioning the programming decision.
Further inquiries came through: “@BBCBreakfast Have you stopped showing local news reports at 6.30?”
In addition to shuffling channels, BBC Breakfast saw a shift in its schedule, wrapping up half an hour earlier than usual at 9am instead of the regular 9.30am close.
Regular watchers also noted Sally Nugent’s absence, who usually anchors the show alongside Jon Kay from Monday to Wednesday.
Business reporter Nina, who frequently takes the helm of the breakfast show, stepped in as her replacement.
In a further shake-up on Tuesday, viewers noticed another change in the presenting line-up with Jon absent from the show.
Ben Thompson, a regular weekend host, filled in for the usual presenter.
BBC Breakfast airs daily at 6am on BBC One.
