BBC Breakfast hosting shake-up as two fan favourites missing from show

BBC Breakfast fans, who tuned in to the morning show found two of the show’s beloved faces missing from their screens. In Wednesday’s episode, regulars Carol Kirkwood and Sally Nugent were absent.

Stepping in was Jon Kay, who took up presenting duties alongside Nina Warhurst, filling in for her usual co-host as they tackled the day’s top stories.

Jon and Nina welcomed Matt Taylor, 46, to the studio as he took on the task of delivering today’s weather forecast. It remains a mystery why Carol was away from the BBC show, reports the Express.

Kicking off the segment, Nina introduced: “We’ve got Matt Taylor today.” Chiming in, Jon added: “What more do we need? Morning Matt.”

Before launching into the forecast, Matt quipped: “I do try my best. I’m still waiting for my star but Good Morning everyone I hope you’re well.”

This isn’t the first time Matt has filled in for Carol; it’s his third stint in recent months, and he’s set to continue for the next three weeks.

Taking to social media, the TV personality gave his followers the heads up that he’ll be gracing the Breakfast show with his presence quite a bit more.

Matt took to social media, stating: “Good morning all! I’ll be looking after most of your @BBCBreakfast weather forecasts for the next 3 weeks. It’s a humid start to the week too, with rain for some. Thunderstorms are possible for a few in the Met Office YELLOW warning area.”

Meanwhile, Carol has been making career moves outside BBC Breakfast’s realm. The weather presenter unveiled that her fourth novel, Once Upon a Time in Venice, has hit the shelves.

She broadcasted the thrilling news over X, formerly Twitter, and posted a snapshot of her new book. Accompanying the image, the 62 year old expressed: “So thrilled that my fourth book ‘Once Upon a Time in Venice’ is out TODAY! ! ! This would not be happening without all your support. THANK YOU.”

Carol already has a string of books to her name. Last year, she published her first-ever romance novel, Under a Greek Moon, which clinched the second spot on the Sunday Times bestsellers list.

Her second novel was introduced in 2022 and named The Hotel on the Riviera, swiftly followed by Secrets of The Villa Amore, her third book released in July 2023.

BBC Breakfast airs from 6am on BBC One and iPlayer
