BBC Breakfast Naga Munchetty’s private life – stunning home to rarely-seen hubby

BBC Breakfast presenter Naga Munchetty is no stranger to the public eye.

She has hosted the Beeb’s flagship morning show since 2014, most commonly sharing the sofa with co-star Charlie Stayt. Her private life, however, is exactly that – with the 48-year old rarely opening up about her marriage to James Haggar or sharing details of their life at home since they wed in 2004.

The pair live together in Hertfordshire, and both commute to London where James works as an ITV broadcast consultant. Hunky James was previously a senior director for CNBC International for a decade before joining Sky.

When they’re not busy in their jobs, the couple actively enjoy their shared passions including golf and snooker, which Naga occasionally gives an insight into on her Instagram account. The star boasts 66,000 followers on the platform, but tends to use her account to promote her work for BBC Radio 5 Live. Born Subha Nagalakshmi Munchetty-Chendriah in London in 1975, As Naga turns another year older, Daily Star look back at the rare glimpses into her home and love life.

Naga and James are both huge snooker fans and shared their first date at a pool hall, where they bonded over the sport and began dating for several years before tying the knot. Speaking about that somewhat unusual first meeting, Naga recently recalled the occasion as though it was “just like yesterday.

“My first date with James was at a pool hall,” she told the Daily Mail. “We love snooker and pool and this is one of the cues for our snooker table – it’s three-quarter-sized with grey baize, which is a bit more stylish than green.”

Over on the golf course, meanwhile, Naga told the Guardian in 2016.: “It gives us a few hours together when we’re walking and talking and catching up; it really makes a difference. Golf takes you on a journey together, and it means you stay in touch with one another.”

Naga previously explained why she and James have chosen not to have kids, with the BBC star simply stating that she had never wanted them. She shared the story of how she was once branded “wicked” for what she decided to do with her own body, saying: “I remember when I told someone that I had decided I didn’t want children, someone told me I was wicked.”

“Wicked against my mother for denying her grandchildren. It’s quite interesting, isn’t it, how people react.” The couple are clearly singing from the same hymn sheet when it comes to decision making, however, with Naga adding on the Her Spirit Podcast: “James and I don’t row, and he’s a lovely, lovely man, he’s definitely the better half.”

“When James and I got married almost 12 years ago, one of his aunts said to us: the best bit of advice I can give you is to simply be kind to one another. She was right.”

Back in 2021, Naga shockingly revealed that her and James don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day and instead choose to “be kind” instead of celebrating on February 14th. Naga, who has strong opinions on the ‘love’ day, said that the most romantic gesture she could think of was an act of kindness.

She told her Radio 5 Live listeners: “It would be an act of kindness, that’s the most romantic thing I could think of, being kind to someone. Being kind to someone is romantic because all romance is, is showing that you’ve thought about someone else, and being thought about is a wonderful thing, and being cared for is a wonderful thing.”

They may not have children, but Naga and James provide a loving home for their many cats, including Siamese duo Kinky and Ronnie. Naga previously revealed she “feels safe” in her country bolt hole which features wooden floors, white walls, and two huge cream leather sofas, perfect for lounging on to catch up on some telly.

The couple have a matching cream leather armchair and glass coffee table in their living room. The pale textiles are livened up with bright Fuchsia pink and turquoise blue cushions with textured petals. Two wooden side tables six next to the large sofas, and a bold red dresser holds a blue lamps as well as a sweet photo displaying the couple’s initials.

The couples’ kitchen, meanwhile, has a white tiled floor, and wooden cupboards with metallic silver handles to complete the muted colour palette. To add to the perfect neutrals indoors, the cats have a single mat and three beige food bowls to all pitch into.

Heading outdoors, huge French patio doors make quite the statement in her living room as they open up to their huge lush green garden. Paired with a corner chair, floor-length curtains and a rug right in the centre which looks like a popular location for her cats, Naga’s living room looks like a relaxing location.

Discussing her abode in 2016, Naga told Mail Online: “I was born and bred in south London, so living in Hertfordshire is a big change and I love it. I can look out of the window and see nothing but feels and I feel very safe here. I wanted a dog, but it wouldn’t fit our lifestyle, so we got the cats and they’re our pride and joy.”
