BBC Breakfast turns awkward as Naga Munchetty labels Charlie Stayt ‘spoilsport’

Naga Munchetty was quick to call her co-host Charlie Stayt out as she jokingly labelled him a “spoilsport” on BBC Breakfast.

The popular duo was back on the famous red sofa on Thursday morning (June 13) to discuss the latest news headlines. During the programme, Charlie and Naga heard a report from Ben Boulous regarding airport drop-off charges.

Ben explained that those who are driving to certain airports across the UK to drop off a passenger will have to pay an additional fee if they spend ten minutes or more in a drop-off zone. Trying to understand the new rules, Charlie asked Ben about how he can drop off his friend Barry at the airport without incurring a fine.

After Ben gave Charlie a few pointers, Naga asked: “When’s Barry’s next trip? Just to make sure he’s organised.”

But Charlie was quick to cut the conversation off. He replied: “Err, Barry’s made up. He’s not a real person.” Charlie then let out a huge sigh of relief as the pair went silent.

Looking at him boldly, Naga replied: “You’re such a spoilsport.” Laughing the comment off, Charlie went on to apologise.

He said: “Well sorry Barrys out there everywhere. If you need a lift, yes obviously!”

Naga asked Charlie about his ‘made-up’ Barry story

Reacting to the funny exchange on social media platform X, one fan said: “Me mate and I (barry) are away later Charlie boy. Get the engine running, need a lift.”

Another also added: “Re:dropoff – Of course Barry’s ‘made up’. He’s going on holiday and gets to spend time with Charlie, that’s gonna make anyone cheerful.”

The news comes after Charlie was noticeably absent from the show last week, amid personal issues for the television personality. His unexpected absence coincides with the same week that The Sun revealed the financial difficulties faced by him and his wife Anne.

Charlie typically presents the show from Thursday to Saturday alongside Naga Munchetty, but he was missing from the BBC’s morning broadcast on Friday (June 7). Instead, regular BBC presenter Roger Johnson filled in, sitting next to Naga on the programme.

While no explanation was given for Charlie’s absence, it is possible that he was either returning from or still in Normandy, France. He had been broadcasting live from there the day before as part of a special programme commemorating the 80th anniversary of D-Day.
