BBC Breakfast’s Naga Munchetty never misses a moment to tease her colleagues on air in their early morning programme.
Presenting alongside Charlie Stayt, the duo proceeded to offer up headlines from around the world this Thursday (July 18).
The show also featured weatherman Matt Taylor broadcasting live from the Natural History Museum, which had just launched an outdoor space designed to support urban nature, research, and education. Also, it showcased a brand new bronze diplodocus dinosaur.
Before segueing into Matt Taylor’s segment, Naga turned to Charlie asking, “Didn’t we have Dippy at the Natural History Museum? ” Charlie confirmed: “Yes we did have Dippy”.
Naga cheekily added, “Speaking of Dippy, Matt, Morning”, sending the weather presenter into fits of laughter, as noted by the Express, reports the Mirror.
This humorous segment came after Munchetty penned an emotional tribute to Gareth Southgate following his post-Euros 2024 departure.
Under Southgate’s management since 2016, England competed in their first World Cup semi-final in 28 years in 2018 and were finalists in Euro 2020 – the nation’s first major men’s final in 55 years.
With Southgate’s tenure concluding, the FA is now seeking his successor. The news of his resignation broke two days after Spain narrowly edged England 2-1 in the final.
Munchetty took to social media to voice her sadness, commending Southgate on his eight-year reign of the men’s team.
England’s official X account, previously known as Twitter, released a statement saying: “After 102 games and almost eight years in charge, Gareth Southgate has announced he is to leave his role as manager of the #ThreeLions.”
Naga took to social media to express her gratitude, writing: “Thank you for your passion, commitment and for bringing hope, dignity and joy Gareth x.”
Her tweet quickly gathered attention from her 275,000 followers, with responses pouring in. One fan commented: “Great words Naga he has done an amazing job.”
Another chimed in with approval, saying: “Well said! ” A third added: “Nicely put naga.”
Meanwhile, a fourth expressed their disappointment: “Very disappointed that Gareth will not be in charge for the next World Cup. No cup wins but we were in the mix and were challenging towards the end of tournaments. Some people have short memories about the time before Gareth took charge Naga.”
