BBC Breakfast’s Sally Nugent and Jon Kay have been slammed by viewers for serving up what disgruntled fans described as “kiddie-style” news presentations prompting a social media meltdown.
One ticked-off fan blasted on X: “bbcbreakfast this is news for 5-year-olds. Silly Sally using that stupid voice again. This is more like Play School Breakfast TV.”
Another chimed in with their two cents: “#bbcbreakfast with Jon Kay and Sally Nugent wouldn’t be out of place on CBeebies. They present it as if it’s the news for young kids.”
The rants didn’t stop there, with one viewer cutting straight to the chase: “Get on with the news #BBCBreakfast.”
Someone else asked: “Could we have actual news and not a marathon plug for a programme on at 8pm tonight please?” reports the Express.
While some vented with remarks such as “Christ! Made mistake of watching @BBCBreakfast is garbage! Why are the presenters so childish! They talk to the public as if the audience are about 7 years old! Never again!” (sic)
However, not all feedback was negative as one fan praised: “Sally Nugent looking good.”
Carol and Nina also joined Sally and Jon in the studio to deliver the latest weather and business reports.
Prior to hitting the screens, Carol let her followers know about the forecast through a social media heads-up: “Some heavy thundery downpours around this morning. The Met Office has 2 yellow warnings in force atm. The one across N Ireland expires at 0700. The other across Scotland and N England at 1300.”
She wrapped up her forecast with a heads-up: ” Not everyone will see one, but if you do you will know about it @BBCBreakfast.”
Carol’s fans were quick to chime in. One said: “Good morning Carol. It’s already feeling very warm down here in the Portsmouth area. I hope the folks in Northern Ireland, Northern England and Scotland get some decent weather today too.”
Another fan reported from SW Scotland: “The noise in SW Scotland is insane. I’ve never heard anything like it! It’s like an ongoing, incredibly loud, rumble. Woke me up 20 mins ago and still going.” (sic)
Yet another viewer was curious about the source of the forecasts, asking: “Has the BBC switched back to using Met Office forecasts? “.
BBC Breakfast airs daily at 6am on BBC One.
