BBC Radio 1’s Greg James appeals to fans after mortifying public urine blunder

BBC Radio 1’s Greg James was left utterly mortified after suffering an embarrassing urine blunder on the train.

Earlier this month, the beloved radio presenter took to his TikTok account where he shared his traumatic journey with his 300,000 followers online. The star explained that he was taking his sweet dog Barney on a trip to the vets to help fix his injured leg.

He insisted that he took his poorly pooch for a bathroom break before boarding the South Western Railway to Portsmouth. At fist, their journey was going smoothly, with passengers regularly popping over to say hello to the chocolate Labrador.

But things took a turn for the worse just five minutes before they arrived at their stop. After sleeping on the floor for the majority of their journey, Barney hopped up and walked over to the doors.

He told viewers: “I took my dog to the vets yesterday. I took him on the train and he’s usually very good on the train until we were seven minutes away from our destination.

“He walked over to the door and unleashed the longest wee I’ve EVER seen. And I’m not exaggerating when I tell you it was two minutes of p**s. There was so, so much. I was flapping around completely paralysed with [shock].

“You don’t want to shout at him because that won’t do anything, ever, so I was just trying to encourage him to [stop], I was trying to stem the flow. I said, ‘No, no, no! No, not here! No, come on! We’re nearly there!’ as if he’s going to understand that – he’s a dog.”

It was at this point that the presenter sought advice from the two women sat beside him who were also dog owners. Greg continued: “Two lovely ladies were sitting next to me, and I said, ‘What do I do?!’ and they said, ‘Oh dear, there’s nothing you can do!’

“Obviously, I tried to go to the toilet to try and get some paper, but you can never get enough out, and I mean there was a lake.” The TV personality explained that he only had minutes to try and clean up the mess before they got off at the next stop.

But his efforts were fruitless, with the star merely dabbing the mess further into the doormat before they left. Greg admitted: “Five minutes later, we get off the train and there is the most enormous wet patch by the door.

“So I spoke to the guard as he was trying to close all the doors and stuff and check everyone was off the train and everything. I said, ‘I’m so sorry mate, but my dog has had an accident in one of the carriages’ and he just went, ‘Okay, thanks for letting me know’.”

Greg ended the video by appealing to his followers for a way to rectify the situation with the train company online. He asked: “Is there anything I can do to make up for this? That was a bad day. Yes he’s a good boy, but he’s a massive bag of p**s.”

One week later, the broadcaster was sent a lovely email by the railway company thanking him for his lengthy apology. Returning to TikTok, he said: “I’ve got an update for the, ‘My dog did the biggest wee on record on a train on the way to the vets last week’ story.

“Anyway, I obviously felt bad, and I asked the question about the cleaners and what can I do? Well, Charlie, the head of train presentation has emailed me.

“He said, ‘Hey Greg, don’t feel bad. Canine companions like Barney will always be welcome on South Western Railway, even when their journeys don’t go entirely to plan. ‘We hope his op goes well and he’ll be back on his feet in no time.

“‘If you are interested in finding out how the team and I deal with worse than this on a regularly basis, especially after a big Friday night out, I would be thrilled to show you how we keep our trains clean and tidy for customers every day’.”

He decided to drive his dog back home

Greg made sure to pass on the kind words to his furry friends as he explained how the rest of the journey panned out. He continued: “I told Barney my dog and he is thrilled that he’s made new friends simply by soiling himself.

“So at some point when he’s better, we’ll take a trip to the depo. As nice as the email was from the railway company, I decided to drive him home after the operation, probably for the best.”

That’s certainly a sweet way to end quite the soggy situation!
