BBC Radio 2 concern as Zoe Ball is replaced with no warning on Breakfast Show

Zoe has been replaced with no warning on her BBC Radio 2 breakfast show.

Listeners were left stunned on Monday (August 12) when they tuned in to hear a new voice on the airwaves instead of the familiar tones of Zoe. Scott Mills, who stepped in as a surprise replacement, caused a stir when he mentioned that Zoe would be off the air “for weeks”, sending “all their love” her way from the team.

At the crack of dawn, with no sign of Zoe at 6.30am, Scott took over the reins, greeting listeners with: “Good Morning. You weren’t expecting me were you? Welcome to Monday. It’s Scott Mills,” as he kicked off the show.

To ease any potential alarm, he reassured the audience: “If you set your alarm every morning to go off at 6.30 and normally Zoe comes on please do not freak out. You have not overslept. I’m here doing the Breakfast Show, do not panic. It’s early. You aren’t late for work. It’s Monday 12th August,” Scott explained.

After the 8am news, Scott revisited the topic, reminding those just tuning in: “If you’ve just put us on this morning, it’s Scott Mills in for Zoe for the next few weeks. I’m sending you all my love Zo’ as are the team,” reports the Mirror.

Zoe, aged 53, also unexpectedly missed Friday’s programme, despite having told her social media followers the previous night: “See you at dawn”. Instead, listeners expecting Zoe were greeted by Gaby Roslin stepping in as host.

Will Young, who made an appearance on the show, took to the social media to express his eagerness for the chat with Zoe, tweeting: “Jumping in to album release day tomorrow on @bbcradio2. @zoetheball bring your swimmers.”

But instead of Zoe, he found himself talking to her stand-in, Gaby Roslin, upon arriving at Radio 2.

Neither Gaby nor Scott Mills revealed why Zoe was unexpectedly missing from the broadcast.

Zoe Ball had just returned to her BBC Radio 2 programme on Monday after a considerable hiatus. When she returned to the airwaves, she humorously remarked: “What did I miss?”

Her return came shortly following a heartfelt message about her late mother’s “heavenly” birthday – the first since her mother passed away in April. Zoe publicly shared that she and her family were “bereft” because of her mum Julias passing.
