Britain’s Got Talent champ returns to normal job weeks after winning £250k prize

Sydnie Christmas has returned to her normal job despite winning Britain’s Got Talent.

The 28-year-old singer dazzled Simon Cowell and the judges on the latest series of the ITV talent show. In the finale, she stunned with her rendition of Over The Rainbow and became the first ever solo woman to win the show without a dog routine.

She’s pocketed £250,000 and earned a spot in the Royal Variety Performance this year. However, she’s still working at her local gym and is yet to quit her job.

It’s clear Sydnie will need more time to focus on her music career. She has an album in the works and will kick off her My Way tour in Gateshead on October 5 before 15 more UK dates in places such as London, Nottingham, Liverpool and Sheffield.

The singer, who has just released her new single Starlight Express, also revealed that she’s moved back in with her parents in Kent to save money on rent. Sydnie also admitted she didn’t know what a rider was, a sign she’s still down-to-earth despite her success.

She previously said she was planning on retuning to her day job despite the outcome of the final. Before winning, she told the Mirror: “I’ve already had two weeks off – and I’m on a zero-hours contract. I have rent to pay!

She told the outlet: “When I got told about the tour, I thought I was just going to be someone’s warm-up. When they told me it was my tour, I was like, ‘Oh my God’.”

Asked how Simon Cowell has helped her, she replied: “He told me to choose my own path and to take control.” Rubbing shoulders with music moguls is a far cry from her situation before BGT.

In fact, she was close to giving up her dreams of becoming a performer prior to her audition. She told The Sun: “On New Year’s Eve, I had almost thrown in the towel. It just wasn’t sustainable, and I had given it a good go. But then I got onto BGT.”
