Simon Cowell has clapped back at the “fix” rumours regarding Britain’s Got Talent.
Singer Sydnie Christmas bagged the whopping £250,000 prize and a spot on the Royal Variety Performance stage during Sunday’s (June 2) final but whispers of a “fix” started doing the rounds when eagle-eyed viewers clocked a “hint” that she was destined to win because she performed last.
One viewer tweeted out: “Biggest fix there is. #BGT #BritainsGotTalent,” while another chimed in with: “If Sydney wins it’s such a fix. So much favouritism all series #BGT #BritainsGotTalent.” And yet another sceptic posted: “I’m sorry, but I can just see this being a fix. Sydnie was probably going win from day one. #BGT #BritainsGotTalent.”

Before Sydnie was announced as the champ, Simon, aged 64, tackled the “fix” rumours head-on, saying: “Winning is important, but, you know, getting into this final and importantly, doing something great, will actually make a difference. He also pointed out: “You know what was interesting? I worked out, I don’t think a single act tonight were professionals. They all had a regular job and they did something extraordinary.”
Sydnie was the first act to get a Golden Buzzer of the series from judge Amanda Holden, securing her place in the live semi-finals after a performance of Tomorrow from Annie that left not a dry eye in the house.
While ITV audiences were swift to note her theatre history and question her participation in the contest, Sydnie’s talents continue to shine brightly. The gifted performer has received acclaim from one of her most admired idols.
Betting site Ladbrokes identified Sydnie, a 28 year old gym worker, as a top favourite. They predicted she’d bag a prestigious spot on the Royal Variety Performance, betting odds at 2/5 for her to clinch the talent show win.
Following Sunday’s triumph, she said: “I cannot believe the amount of love I’ve felt since it aired. It’s absolutely – oh my God. I am overwhelmed with love and I wish for one day that everyone feels the way I do. It’s amazing, thank you so much.”
The competition saw 11 acts showcasing their skills once again including singer Innocent Masuku, SSaulabi Performance Troupe, illusionist Jack Rhodes, dance group Haribow, vocalist Sydnie Christmas, musical mimic Mike Woodhams, dancing pair Abigail and Afronitaaa, Northants Sing Out choir, comedian Alex Mitchell and magician Trixy. The wildcard act was the canine ensemble, The TrickStars.
