Britney Spears rushes to share huge ‘news’ with fans as next project confirmed

Brace yourself Britney Spears fans, a movie biopic on the singer has officially been announced as Universal has bagged the rights to her memoir The Woman in Me.

The yet untitled biopic will be directed by Jon M Chu, who previously directed Crazy Rich Asians, In The Heights and the upcoming Wicked movies.

The superstar confirmed the exciting news herself as she penned on X, formerly known as Twitter: “Excited to share with my fans that I’ve been working on a secret project with #MarcPlatt.

“He’s always made my favourite movies… stay tuned,” she teased with a rosi emoji and a filming camera emoji.

The Baby One More Time singer’s fans flocked to the comments section to share their excitement as one fan said: “I’m excited to watch the movie.”

Another X user penned: “Britney Spears coming to save the world,” while somebody else enthusiastically wrote: “WE WERE WAITING FOR YOU MOTHER.”

Yet another commented: “Awesome!! I can’t wait to enjoy this secret project!! We love you Britney!! Queen! You are stunning and talented lady! Yay!!”

Britney’s memoir released in October 2023 and has sold over 2.5 million copies in the United States alone.

The book chronicled her journey to becoming a pop sensation, from her early beginnings at the Mickey Mouse clubhouse to her highly-publicised conservatorship case.

An audiobook was also released, with award-winning actress Michelle Williams reading the fascinating copy.

Britney said at the time of the book release: “I poured my heart and soul into my memoir, and I am grateful to my fans and readers around the world for their unwavering support.”

After the book’s release, a bidding war had begun on the rights of the memoir, with Universal winning and being able to make a movie biopic.

It seems that biopics on musicians seem to be all the rage at the minute, with many stories on singer’s lives being depicted on the big screen in the last few years.

Austin Butler played Elvis in his biopic in 2022, Jennifer Hudson took on the role of Aretha Franklin in Respect which released in 2021 and Amy Winehouse’s biopic was released earlier this year.

As well as these, Taron Egerton transformed himself into Elton John for Rocketman in 2019, Andrew Garfield played playwright Jonathan Larson in Tick, Tick… Boom! and Judy Garland’s biopic was released in 2019.
