One Coronation Street star has claimed the series was like a “cult”.
Former series actress Vicky Entwhistle, who played Janice Battersby in the ITV show, slammed Corrie for losing Sean Wilson, who played Martin Platt, and Bruce Jones, who played her on-screen flame Les Battersby.
She took to X/Twitter and wrote a scathing rant aimed at ITV bosses.

Vicky claimed: “I’m so angry at the way @Brucejonesnew @SeanWilsonChef have been treated! It will all come out! I keep my own council now. I’m no longer scared! The measures that company took to control us all was like a sect. It was scary!”
She also alleged: “Every one thinks it’s a soap opera but actually it’s a tightly gripped cult!!! My Husband begged me to leave 2 years before. He hated the controlling environment. When I finally left we cried. The freedom was electric.”
Fans couldn’t believe what they were hearing and rushed to the comment section to share their thoughts. One person wrote: “Sorry to hear that Vicky. Corrie was much better years ago when you guys were in it. I often watch Classic Corrie in the day. I’ve stopped watching the Corrie they screen now for at least 12 years.”
Another tweeted: “Not the same since you guys were in it mate,” while a second added: “I stopped watching it 8 years ago. All the good actors have left and when I do accidentally stumble across it, it’s like watching a school play with far fetched story lines. It’s embarrassing.”
Someone else agreed: “I know 🙁 I’m actually surprised it took 17-18 years to write Bruce out if I’m honest, it rather suggests there’s a shortage of storylines. I’ll miss Les’s moaning and whinging!”
Other critics slammed Corrie’s recent storylines, which one person compared to being “written by children” while another said: “Watching classic Corrie now and @Brucejonesnew was just the pinnacle of everything that was right about the show. Such a shame to kill him off like this.”
