Coronation Street star Colson Smith confessed he bought a “big drum of lubricant” on Celebrity Antiques Road Trip and lost more money than he started with.
Last week, loyal fans of the ITV soap may have spotted a familiar face on the BBC Two antiques show. The Craig Tinker star teamed up with Christine McGuiness on the charity episode where they worked alongside experts to scour for antiques on the road.
The fiery redhead was teamed up with Irita Marriot and Herrie Jago to travel across Cheshire to find the best bargains that will make money at auction. Travelling in a powder blue 1980s Volkswagen Beetle, the two celebrities split into teams to find prized family heirlooms to raise money for charity.

On Thursday (February 1), the ITV star has lifted the lid on what it was like to take part on the show and the struggles he faced raising money. The actor, who hosts the podcast On The Sofa with his co-stars Jack. P. Shepherd and Ben Price, proudly declared: “I’m on Antiques Road Trip tonight.”
It didn’t take long before his co-stars poked fun at his appearance on the show, as the Nick Tilsley star chuckled: “You got a load of s**t didn’t you? You got a plate which they told you would get £20.”
Colson interrupted: “I bought, I can tell you all this now, I guess. I bought a film projector and the podcast might get a mention!” It was at this point that the David Platt hunk asked: “Did the film projector sell?”
Colson was forced to painfully admit: “Yes, not for more than I paid for it though. I didn’t make money on anything.” He went on to share the other items he bought in the various antique shops around Cheshire.
The soap star added: “I bought a shoe stretcher, like a cobbler’s shoe stretcher.” His co-hosts burst into laughter before Jack asked: “What? A f***ing shoe stretcher? Why don’t you just buy the right size?”
But his struggles on the show didn’t end there, as he went on to confess that he also bought a “big drum of lubricant” following the approval of his fellow expert. He confessed: “It gets worse.
“I bought a big drum of lubricant because I thought it looked cool and arty. I bought a teacup that I was told to buy because it would have made me money at auction – which it did.”

Ben then asked whether the actor actually made any money off of his purchases once the auction fees were deducted from his total profit. Colson shamefully admitted: “No, no. I made a loss, and the show was for charity.”
Viewers can still catch up with the mortifying episode on BBC iPlayer.
