Corrie’s Simon Gregson reveals co-star’s rude nickname and admits ‘she’ll hate me’

Coronation Street’s Simon Gregson has let slip the amusing nickname he has for his on-screen daughter on Deal or No Deal.

The ITV gameshow returned for a soap star special on Sunday (January 7) presented by Stephen Mulhern. And the famous face taking on the banker to raise money for charity was Coronation Street legend Simon, who plays Steve McDonald on the cobbles.

A selection of Simon’s friends, family and Corrie co-stars were on hand to support him in the studio, including Elle Mulvaney who plays his on-screen daughter Amy. However, during the show he revealed what he calls her.

Stephen mused: “What did you call her? Smelly belly?” Simon explained: “I called her Smelly Belly when she was very little and I’ve kept calling it her.”

He added: “And she went through a phase of going ‘stop calling me Smelly Belly,’ and now I think she’s come out of that.” Elle interrupted and added: “I’ve just decided there’s no point arguing it.”

Host Stephen added: “Well the great thing is he’s now done it in front of millions of people.” Simon laughed and noted: “No big deal.” But unfortunately for him, Elle had a huge £25,000 in her box.

Fans were left stunned at Simon’s nickname for Elle – and one even joked how she got her revenge on Simon for telling viewers her embarrassing nickname. On X, formerly known as Twitter, one person said: “Who knew Amy Barlow’s nickname was Smelly Belly ! She opened 25k ! Got her own back there.”

Someone else gushed: “Love Elle ( Amy Barlow) she looks gorge tonight as well.” A third felt gutted for Simon after losing the £25k. They penned: “The 25 has gone, oh dear!”
