Strictly Come Dancing’s own judge, Craig Revel Horwood, has been left gobsmacked amidst the sensational claims of “gross misconduct” swirling around the hit dance show.
BBC Breakfast anchors Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt put Craig in the hot seat, digging for his take on the bombshell allegations rocking Strictly. Sharing his take on the scandal, Craig simply said, ‘It was a shock.”
The BBC dance floor drama kicked up a notch when Amanda Abbington made claims against Giovanni Pernice’s behaviour during their training sessions. Claims Giovanni has strongly denied.
Zara McDermott’s dance partner, Graziano Di Prima, has also been pulled into the fray following claims of “gross misconduct”, reports the Express. Both professional dancers have since been axed from Strictly.
Naga didn’t pull any punches introducing the interview as she dived right in with: “Listen, can we just go straight in, let’s talk about what’s going on at Strictly?” Craig was quick to reply: “That was a shock.”
BBC Radio 5 Live’s Naga cheekily probed: “What was a shock?” Ever the diplomat, Craig clapped back: “Well, just finding out what’s happening at Strictly.”
Seeking clarity, Naga pressed on: “Are you talking about the allegations at Strictly?”
“Yeah, the allegations,” Craig divulged, laying it bare as he added: “I was completely gobsmacked by the whole thing and of course, I found out in the press because of course, the judges are all kept very separate to all the contestants and all the pros.
“The only time we ever see each other is when we’re in passing to the studio so you don’t really get an opportunity to know what happens in the rehearsal and that’s not part of our job.”
Turning the conversation to his training, Naga said: “Have you ever thought about, how you train and that relationship?” Craig told her: “I know how I was trained and it was tough.”
The TV judge revealed: “I had a Russian Ballet teacher who used to have a cain and she would wack us with it, you know just so you’re not pulling up from the thigh, to make you engage your hamstrings.”
He reassured fans: “Obviously, that sort of training would not be available today, you know things have changed and we’ve come a long way in the forty years since I’ve trained.”
BBC Breakfast airs daily at 6am on BBC One.
