EastEnders aired another surprise twist in Keanu Taylor’s murder plot as Linda Carter (played by Kellie Bright) confessed to the cold-blooded crime.
Fans of the BBC One soap have been gripped this week as Dean Wicks (Matt Di Angelo) faced his trial for the killing of Keanu (Danny Walters) on Christmas Day 2023.
After Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner), Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) and Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) took to the witness stand and all faced harsh cross-examination from Dean’s lawyer Warren Finn (Neil Roberts). As innocent Dean was looking like he was going to be found guilty, he admitted in court that he raped Linda in 2014 – and she was framing him in revenge.
On Wednesday (September 4), Dean forced a mistrial as he faced police questioning over Linda’s rape.
Back in Albert Square, The Six gathered to talk alongside Johnny Carter (Charlie Suff) where Linda was relieved that Dean had told the truth, but the others were more concerned.
The women squabbled over what to do next as it was now possible they would all face questioning about Keanu’s fatal night once more, which could take months.
Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth) pointed out that now Dean had confessed to Linda’s rape, they were now framing an innocent man for murder, and he will face the rest of his life in prison for something he didn’t do.
Not succumbing to pressure, Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal) told the group to keep their heads down and get on with their lives, but Linda didn’t seem so sure.
Meanwhile, Dean’s plan didn’t play out as he had hoped. With no new evidence to convict anyone else, his solicitor told him he could end up facing concurrent sentences for both rape and murder.
Later, Linda stood in the spot where she killed Keanu and dashed to the cellar as it all got too much. She grabbed a bottle of vodka and was about to drink it, but instead, she smashed it to stop herself from giving in to temptation.
She frantically phoned Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) to ask for help, and he arrived to find her inconsolable on the floor before giving her a comforting hug.
Linda was filled with self-hatred as Phil agreed that her life would never be the same and explained that she had to learn to live with herself and stay alive for her kids, or she would drink herself to death.
She later kissed her sleeping children goodnight as she headed for the police station consumed with guilt.
At the station, Dean made a phone call to Jade and urged her not to jump to false conclusions when the rape charge comes out.
Linda walked past him, and demanded to speak to the detective, making sure that the tape was recording. She then stated: “It was me,” Linda admitted. “I did it. I killed Keanu Taylor.”
Despite Linda’s shock confession, some viewers still think she will get away with the crime owing to Dean also confessing to killing Keanu to get a shorter prison sentence, and avoid a retrial.
Taking to X, one viewer wrote: “My prediction for tomorrow – the detective tells Linda that Dean’s confessed to the murder. His solicitor basically told him he’s done himself with yesterday’s outburst & he won’t win a retrial. Confessing would give him less jail time than a guilty verdict.”
A second added: “I do hope so”, as a third chimed in: “I do hope the detectives don’t believe Linda, the same way they didn’t believe Suki about Ranveer #EastEnders.”
“I’m really hoping that detective tells Linda shut up and go home think about what you just said #EastEnders”, added another.
While one person suggested Linda’s confession wasn’t real: “Wait I’ve just seen someone say what if the end of today’s episode was all Linda’s dream… #EastEnders.”
EastEnders airs Monday – Thursday on BBC One and iPlayer
