Sonia Fowler has been charged with the murder of Debbie Colwell, the wife of her comatose wife of her fiancé Reiss Colwell in a game-changing EastEnders twist.
In scenes available to watch on BBC iPlayer, and will air on BBC One on Wednesday (August 21), Sonia and Reiss are questioned by the detectives, who have physical evidence that Debbie was murdered.
Viewers had seen Reiss seemingly kill Debbie at the care home she was being looked after in, years on from an apparent stroke. Amid financial issues and growing care home debts, he was shown seemingly murdering his wife before covering his tracks.
However, just moments earlier, Sonia had innocently visited Debbie in the care home, where she readjusted her pillow and was scolded by a nurse for not signing into the visitor’s book.
After being interview separately by the police, Reiss was released on bail but Sonia was told that she had been charged with Debbie’s murder.
The detective told Sonia: “We’ve got physical evidence linking you to the crime. You had a clear and pressing motive and don’t have an alibi. I’ve spoken to the CPS and they agree with me. We’re going to charge you with the murder of Deborah Colwell.”
Fans will have to wait and see exactly what happens next for nurse Sonia but it has been confirmed that actress Natalie Cassidy is taking a break from the BBC soap.
According to The Sun, the soap icon will be making the most of her character’s time away from the Walford as she’s set to front a new show on Channel 4.
Following the success of the channel’s air-fryer programme, Natalie will be presenting a four-part series about consumer trends titled What’s The Big Deal? “Natalie will be taking a short break, just like many of her co-stars do when they have another project”, an EastEnders source said about her break from the show.
