EastEnders star Laurie Brett has undergone surgery.
The 54-year-old actress played Jane Beale on the BBC soap for 13 years before leaving in 2017. On Tuesday evening (March 5), the actress took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share an emotional snap from a hospital bed.
She posed for a selfie wearing a hospital gown while holding a cuddly rabbit toy to her shoulder. Laurie captioned the picture: “We have to ring fence & protect our @NHSEngland #whittingtonhospital from any politics. An all party agreement. Thanks especially to Nicole for post op care. Thanks to everyone @thegirlsmusical @UnitedAgents & my darling @garyaknichols for feeding and looking after me.”

Laurie was unsurprisingly immediately flooded with support from her followers, with one fan writing: “Hope you’re ok Laurie. Lots of love xxx.” Another person added: “Oh, hope you’re well on the mend, Laurie. Sending love down from Scotland.” A third social media user tweeted: “Oh no. Please get well very soon. Take care of yourself x”. She also received support from EastEnders stars.

Dancing on Ice star Ricky Norwood, who played Fatboy in EastEnders, wrote: “Hope you’re ok Laurie . Sending big [heart emoji]”. Heather Peace, who plays Eve Unwin added: “Much love to you Laurie. Hope you’re fully recovered soon xxx.” EastEnders writer Daran Little commented: “Sending love and prayers so speedy recovery.”

It comes months after fans were left convinced that Jane Beale could be returning to EastEnders after “spotting her on set” back in November last year. The former café worker was last seen in Walford back in 2017 when Max Branning (Jake Wood) ordered her to leave Walford. Whilst she hasn’t been back since, her ex-husband Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) is now back alongside his ex Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins).

Fans were certain Jane could be making a huge return to the show after spotting her in the background of a behind-the-scenes video of Linda Carter star Kellie Bright’s day on set. One fan mused: “Is it just me or does this look like Jane Beale behind Linda on her day in the life on TikTok?” as others rushed to agree with them, insisting it must be Laurie. However, there’s no sign of Jane coming back to Albert Square.
