EastEnders fans are gearing up for Eurovision star Olly Alexander’s cameo appearance this week.
The Years & Years singer, who is representing Great Britain in the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest with his hit song Dizzy, is about to make his debut in Soapland. Olly will be arriving in Albert Square on Thursday, May 2.
Olly will head to the iconic Queen Vic pub where he will receive a hero’s welcome ahead of his Eurovision performance, where Johnny Carter (Charlie Suff) will be on hand to greet him. Speaking about his upcoming stint on the soap, the pop-star said: “I’m thrilled to be making my first appearance on EastEnders and in the most iconic pub in the UK.”

He added: “I’m so happy I got to meet some true screen legends and spend time on set with the brilliant cast and crew. I wanted to surprise my mom as it’s her favourite show, but I guess the cast is out of the bag now, she’s gonna love it.”
With Olly’s shock arrival in Walford being a talking point, we couldn’t help but reminisce about some of the past stars who have also taken up brief cameo stints on the BBC soap. From Amanda Holden and Boris Johnson to David Walliams, Daily Star takes a look..
Amanda Holden
Heart FM radio star Amanda sent the internet into a spin when she reminisced about her stint on the soap during a chat with her co-hosts Jamie Theakston and Ashley Roberts in 2020. The Britain’s Got Talent judge was even elated about sharing the stage with Ian Beale as she manned a stall at the iconic market in Walford.
She said on-air: “I had to look after someone’s stall for half an hour which was like four episodes or something. Ian Beale, I looked after a jewellery stall and he had his fruit and veg, there was a lot of messing around with rude fruit, that’s all I’m going to say. I had a lot of fun, it was a nice show to do.”
Boris Johnson
Former Prime Minister and Mayor of London Boris Johnson has never lived down his cameo from 2009. It often does the rounds on social media and has been the influence of a number of hilarious memes.
During his on-screen debut, Boris rocked up to the famous pub where he was greeted by iconic landlady Peggy Mitchell -played by the late Barbara Windsor. Peggy opened the scene saying: “It’s such an honour to have you here, Mr Mayor.”
He chirped back: “Oh please, call me Boris.” Pointing at the pint of bitter he ordered, she said: “Lucky for me your bike got a puncture. Now, would you like a top up?”
Nick Grimshaw
The former Radio 1 host left fans in hysterics with his hilarious visit to Walford back in 2013. BBC viewers were left with jaws on the floor after spotting the beloved presenter as a caretaker.
He didn’t exactly get the starring role he’d hoped for but that didn’t stop fans from spotting him in the background of the soap. Nick could be witnessed gliding through a Christmas party with a mop, behind actors Patrick Trueman and Cora Cross.
It was all part of his “soapbombing” challenge on BBC Radio 1, which also saw him land cameos in Corrie, Emmerdale, Hollyoaks – and even Home and Away. He appeared on-screen with soap legends like Michelle Keegan, Jennie McAlpine and Jeff Hordley.
David Walliams
It proved to be a mega Christmas Day special in 2003, when Kat and Alfie Moon tied the knot. Who better to hire as a hilarious fake registrar than quick-witted David?
At the time, Alfie hadn’t broke the news to his future wife that his divorce had not been finalised, so he hired Ray – played by the former BGT judge – to step in to help with their vows.
In true Eastenders format, it wasn’t without the drama factor. Alfie’s cover-up was blown and the truth prevailed, leaving Ray in an uncomfortable position.
Robbie Williams
Eastenders super-fan Robbie claimed that he had a starring cameo back in 1995. It was the same year that he exited the boyband Take That.
As there isn’t any concrete evidence of his role on the BBC programme, we’ll just have to believe the singer that his dreams did come true when he rubbed shoulders with some of his acting heroes.
