EastEnders’ Reiss Colwell finds himself in a web of deceit next week after murdering his wife, and must confront the consequences with girlfriend Sonia Fowler. On Wednesday (July 24), Reiss (Jonny Freeman) shockingly suffocated his comatose wife Debbie as her care home debts started to pile up.
Debbie had been unconscious for a while following a stroke but Reiss resorted to murder to settle his money troubles. Initially, Reiss was using Debbie’s money to finance his and partner Sonia’s (Natalie Cassidy) IVF treatment, which has been a success.
The accountant has also nicked £13.5k from Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) and her business associate Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) is on his tail to reclaim their cash after Reiss planned to invest the funds.

Next week, Phil tracks down Reiss after spotting him in the Square and demands a return on his ‘investment’, but pregnant Sonia observes from a distance.
Curious about what’s happening between Phil and her boyfriend, Sonia quizzes Reiss about the local tough guy’s issue, reports the Express.
At first, Reiss attempts to hide his latest lie but he soon reaches his limit and confesses he has stolen Phil’s money.
Sonia is taken aback by Reiss’ latest dishonesty but she puts her emotions aside and the couple visits Debbie.
Just before they head to the care home, the police drop by to inform Reiss that Debbie’s post-mortem is finished and he can see her while they await the results.
But Sonia quickly gets caught up in another lie due to deceitful Reiss.
While visiting the care home, Reiss and Sonia unexpectedly run into Debbie’s parents Brenda and Hugh Collins, portrayed by Michael Bertenshaw and Nichola McAuliffe. This leaves widower Reiss with some serious explaining to do.
Reiss faces a significant challenge as Debbie’s parents are completely unaware of Sonia’s existence, let alone that she is his new girlfriend and they are expecting a baby together.
The atmosphere thickens when Brenda starts asking pointed questions. Sonia extends her sympathies to Debbie’s parents, who fail to recognise her.
Sonia is taken aback when Reiss introduces her as his landlady, concealing the truth about their relationship. However, she decides to play along.
They then retreat to No. 25 for some refreshments. After Reiss manages to convince Sonia why he hasn’t disclosed their relationship to Brenda and Hugh, they are caught in a passionate kiss by Brenda, forcing Reiss to confess the truth.
Later on, Brenda and Hugh overhear Sharon and Teddy discussing Reiss and are taken aback by what they discover. The question remains, will Sonia ever tire of Reiss’ deceitful antics?
EastEnders airs from Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
