EastEnders set to bring back legend for soap ‘return’ ahead of 40th anniversary

An EastEnders star is set ‘to return’ to Albert Square ahead of the show’s 40th anniversary.

This comes after bosses have already confirmed the return of Michael French who is going to reprise his role as David Wicks. The actor will be coming back to the soap later this year, with fans also calling out for the possiblity of his ex.

Fans have now speculated that another legend will come back, David’s ex Carol Jackson, who is played by Lindsey Coulson. The last time she was seen on the show is over 10 years ago.

Viewers were chatting on social media, with one demanding: “Okay now SURELY you have to bring Carol back.” A second added: “Please bring back Lindsay Coulson.”

While a third penned: “With the legendary Carol Jackson beside him [Michael], I hope.” While a fourth posted: “With all these returns we need Carol Jackson rocking up on her motorbike, helmet off, a shake of the hair, smile and ‘Hello David…’ Thats a Thursday duff duff right there.”

In other EastEnders new, BBC soap legend Shaun Williamson recently revealed he’d be up for returning to Albert Square as his character Barry Evans.

Despite Barry being killed off by Janine Butcher (played by Charley Brooks) who brutally pushed him off a cliff 20 years ago, the actor is up for making a comeback.

In a previous interview, he opened up about how Barry was supposed to come to a different end. He said: “Barry was originally supposed to end Janine on Valentine’s Day that year. But then I’d decided I wanted to leave after being there for 10 years.

“[The producers] then re-wrote scripts and flipped things around so that I would die instead.”

However, it might not be the last viewers see of the star as he revealed he would be up for returning as a ghost. The star added: “I’d definitely love to go back as a ghost, who knows.”

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer
