Danny Dyer’s latest BBC acting project has ended as it was cancelled after just one series.
The cheeky London lad, 47, starred in the BBC Two show Henpocalypse!, in which he played himself in the comedy-drama series. The show followed the lives of a group of women as the world gets embroiled in a pandemic.
With Kate O’Flynn taking on the role of bride Jen, the women had retreated to the mountains of North Wales from their native Birmingham for a rural hen do. When they return to find the world caught in a deadly pandemic, they enlist the help of many – including Danny – to get themselves through without being infected.

The show garnered decent ratings figures, with almost half a million people tuning in as the show kicked off in early August. However, according to The Sun, an insider close to the corporation said that the show did not have enough of a pull to renew it for a second series.
A source for the BBC said: “It just didn’t get the audience figures to justify it returning.” It came despite the all-star cast of the show, including Waterloo Road star Elizabeth Berrington and Line of Duty icon Lucie Shorthouse.
Other well-known stars that made cameos included Callie Cooke and Lauren O’Rourke, who rounded out the group of bridesmaids. Ben McGregor, known for his roles in Fresh Meat and The Tuckers, also made an appearance – as well as Raised by Wolves star Kaine Zajaz.
Dyer himself brought viewers to tears of laughter when he made a memorable cameo on the short series. In one hilarious scene for the show, Danny was spotted in tight fit clothes, making him look like a hunky knight.
Caroline Moran, creator of the show, said in a previous interview that she was determined to bring the ex-EastEnders star onto the project. She joked that she went as far as to “beg” him to join the show, as she branded him a “national treasure”.
“There’s only one Danny Dyer; he’s fantastic,” she beamed. “He was everything and more than I could’ve hoped for.
“I emailed him, begging, going, ‘You’re amazing, you’re a national treasure – what do you say?’ He was up for it.”
Speaking at the time of the release of the show, Danny said he was keen to get on the show as he had wanted to show a “fictionalised and heightened version of himself” for the public. He thanked Caroline for the opportunity, saying he was “honoured” to have the chance to have fun with his character.
Ahead of the first episode airing last year, Danny explained: “When I saw the pilot for Henpocalypse! I p***ing myself laughing and I was so honoured to be asked to be a part of such an amazing job. You’re all gonna f***ing love it – it’s hilarious.”
