EastEnders viewers spot ‘incest’ blunder and moan ‘the writers forgot’

EastEnders fans were left distracted after they spotted a blunder – claiming that the “writer’s forgot.”

The BBC soap returned for another instalment on Thursday (February 15) – and it’s fair to say it delivered on the drama. But at one point in the episode, fans pointed out a huge blunder.

During a scene at the cafe, Johnny Carter was speaking to Ben Mitchell about Dean Wicks – and how to take him down after he’s been terrorising his mum Linda. Unfortunately for them, Dean has a recording of Linda falsely confessing that he did not rape her.

Ben told Johnny: “Find that recording saying that she lied.” Sarcastically, he replied: “Yeah, yeah I’ll just go ask him.” Ben then said: “Well give him a bit of the Johnny Carter charm.” Johnny quipped: “He’s straight.” Ben proclaimed: “Well there’s always a first.”

Fans pointed out the blunder

Fans were left feeling uneasy over Johnny’s comment. On an EastEnders Facebook page, one person pointed out how Dean is Johnny’s uncle.

They shared their thoughts and said: “Anyone else found it weird when Ben told Jonny to charm Deano and Jonny replied with “he’s straight” instead of “that’s incest” as that is his bio uncle. Writers forget who’s related to who?”

Someone replied and said: “I didn’t even clock it while I was watching tbh everyone is related to everyone in Albert Square.” A third penned: “Omg! Yeah! I didn’t even think.”

A fourth chimed in and wrote: “I’m not surprised they forgot. I do as well but yes good point.” Another fan on X, formerly known as Twitter, also penned: “Why is Ben suggesting to Johnny to flirt with his UNCLE?”

In the next few weeks, Ben’s exit will be played out on screens. Max Bowden made his soap debut in 2019 as Phil Mitchell’s son and during his stint, he has had some big storylines – including the character’s horrific rape ordeal in 2022.

Max was the sixth actor to play Ben – and became a hit with viewers since his first appearance. So much so, that he’s even scooped a few gongs for his portrayal.
