Emma Stone, the Oscar, BAFTA, and Golden Globe Award-winning actress, has had a number of unforgettable roles.
The Arizona native, who was named one of Time magazine’s 100 most influential people in the world in 2017, made waves with her film Poor Things, particularly due to its explicit sex scenes.
After starring in a series of critically acclaimed teen comedies such as Superbad, Zombieland, and Easy A, she moved on to tackle a more mature role, playing one of cinema’s “horniest legends”. In Poor Things, Emma, 36, portrays Bella Baxter, a character resurrected from the dead by implanting her unborn child’s brain into her head, leading her to explore her newfound sexuality in unexpected ways.

Despite the provocative role, the mother-of-one hasn’t always been comfortable with such scenes. So as Emma celebrates her 36th birthday, we take a look at all of her naughtiest confessions.
Real slaps
Real slaps were delivered during the filming of Emma’s 2010 film Easy A, according to director Will Gluck. He revealed that Emma slapped co-star Dan Byrd multiple times during an intimate scene.
Will recalled: “Emma smacked Dan many times, and initially, as I recall, Emma didn’t want to smack him hard.
“And Dan is just such a trouper, telling her, ‘You have to keep smacking me, you have to keep smacking me! ‘ “And if you watch the movie, those are real smacks. “Emma smacked Dan many times, and initially, as I recall, Emma didn’t want to smack him hard.”
Asthma attack
Emma once revealed a rather breathless moment on set during an interview with MTV News about her film Easy A. She recalled: “Oh, for the love, I can’t even simulate sex without dying!” after experiencing hyperventilation and needing an oxygen tank to recover from a simulated sex scene.
“I had a little asthma attack, without any prior knowledge that I had asthma, during the scene where we had to jump up and down for hours and hours screaming and yelling on the bed.”
Ryan Gosling
In a steamy recollection with Glamour UK in 2013, Emma dished the dirt on her intimate scenes with heartthrob Ryan Gosling in Crazy, Stupid, Love. She quipped: “I can still remember the first time I auditioned with Ryan for Crazy, Stupid, Love.”
She added: “My friends took me to the airport that night and when they asked me what I’d been doing all day, and I said that I’d been writhing around all over Ryan Gosling’s bed, they were like, ‘Right! Get on that plane!’ I guess that is pretty weird to hear.”
‘Great chemistry’
Andrea Riseborough, who got up close and personal with Emma in Battle of the Sexes, spilled the beans on their on-screen chemistry in a 2017 Metro interview. Andrea shared: “Emma and I knew each other well enough to feel relieved and comfortable to be doing this with each other, which is not often something you find playing opposite someone romantically.
“What’s more difficult is when you don’t have great chemistry with someone – Emma and I have great chemistry.”
‘Awfully fun’
Oscar winner Olivia Colman and Emma also discussed their on-screen intimate scenes in The Favourite. The hit film, which portrayed Emma as Baroness Masham and Rachel Weisz as the Duchess of Marlborough, depicted the rivalry between these two cousins vying for the affection of Olivia’s Queen Anne.
And as part of it, the pair got pretty close. Speaking at the 2018 Venice Film Festival, Olivia told Reuters : “It was awfully fun having sex with Emma Stone.” To which Emma replied: “It was really fun having sex with you too.”
Stuffing a cucumber and no shame
In Yorgos Lanthimos’ eccentric science fiction movie Poor Things, Emma turned plenty of critics’ heads.
Geoffrey Macnab from the Independent described a notably explicit moment, stating: “Once she’s first stuffed a cucumber inside what she calls her ‘hairy business’, a new world of adventure and tragedy opens up for her.”
Yorgos mentioned that Emma “had to have no shame about her body, nudity and engaging in those scenes”, and she had understood that “right away”.
