Emmerdale Tom King star hints at soap future as he pays tribute to ‘brilliant’ co-star

Emmerdale star James Chase has praised his “brilliant” on-screen partner Eden Taylor-Draper and has teased what’s next in the gripping coercive control storyline.

Tom King has been mentally and physically abusing her wife Belle Dingle for months and things are set to take a turn for the worst in upcoming scenes of the ITV soap.

Presenter Christine Lampard welcomed James to ITV’s Lorraine on Tuesday (July 23) morning to discuss the special flashback scenes set to air this week which will expose Tom’s controlling and violent behaviour escalate once more.

Viewers have seen the villain isolate Belle from her loved ones and now he plots to do this further by taking her on a “trip” to Wales, with plans to move there permanently.

Speaking about working with his on-screen wife, James gushed: “With me and Eden, my brilliant co-star, our main goal is to keep eye on the target. There’s some difficult scenes but if we can walk away happy with what we’ve done then that’s good.”

In upcoming scenes, Belle’s thrilled as she and Tom enjoy their cottage stay, but dark scenes soon air with their fates not confirmed. Belle’s brother Cain Dingle and cousin Charity Dingle finally realise something is wrong, and cotton on to Tom’s controlling behaviour.

They end up fleeing to the cottage after finding the address, but grim scenes await them with the cottage trashed and the walls covered in blood. As the pair fear something terrible has happened to Belle, viewers see a major change to the show’s format.

Wednesday’s (July 24) episode will feature a flashback twist, as we go back to the moment the couple arrive at the holiday cottage. While initially they seem loved up, the cracks soon start to show as Tom begins his manipulation tactics.

The flashbacks detail events going on across their stay, and reveal what has led to the horror scene that Cain and Charity soon find. But where are Tom and Belle? All will become clear in the dark special episode airing next week.

It’s said events take a terrifying turn for Belle after she realises Tom plans to keep her there for longer. It comes as actor Jeff Hordley, who plays Cain, teased this could be the moment that leads to Tom’s downfall.

Teasing how far Cain will go to avenge Belle if needed, he said: “It’s his little sister. If someone hurts his little sister there’s no saying what Cain would do.” Emma added: “They do what they need to do.”

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1 and ITVX and Lorraine airs weekdays on ITV at 9am
