Secrecy around the final episode Gavin and Stacey is so tight even BBC bosses don’t know what happens.
Writers James Corden and Ruth Jones are refusing to let them read the script.
The Beeb’s head of comedy Jon Petrie said: “I still haven’t seen the script. James and Ruth won’t let us look at it. They are really keeping it under wraps. They don’t want people to see it outside of their very tight circle until they’re 100% on it.”

James and Ruth face a tough challenge keeping storylines under wraps once filming on the special kicks off in September. Fans are likely to flock to south Wales to see scenes being shot.
Jon added: “It’ll be hard when they’re filming it. It’s such a huge show. In all the locations it’ll be obvious what’s being shot.” The episode will air in a plum slot on Christmas Day on BBC One.
It is expected to be the most-watched show of the festive season after the 2019 special pulled in more than 17million viewers. It comes after James revealed the script isn’t finished yet.
The star admitted he needs another session with co-writer Ruth Jones to make sure it’s good enough. They face a race against the clock to make sure it’s ready in time for filming.
Speaking on Radio 2, he said: “It’s going to be tight to get it in and delivered. Building that show is like building a Jenga puzzle… cast availabilities and all that. It’ll be OK. Ruth and I have to do one last pass and clean up of it.
The cast are like, ‘When can I read it?’ We don’t want to really give it to anybody if we feel like we have to make a few trims and adjustments, but I’m really excited to share it with people.”
James and Ruth revealed that Gavin and Stacey was coming back just a few weeks ago. They wrote on social media: “Some news… It’s official!!! We have finished writing the last ever episode of Gavin and Stacey. See you on Christmas Day, BBC One. Love Ruth and James [heart emoji] (sic).”
