One of Geordie Shore’s most well-known stars has candidly spoken about having hearing aids fitted at a young age.
Holly Hagan, 31, admitted that she needs the mechanisms in order to combat years of being unable to hear people. She added that she had been “struggling” with the condition for years and only recently caved in to get the aids to help her live a full life.
Speaking to her Instagram followers on Monday (July 1), Hagan explained that she was thrilled at the fact she could now hear people properly. She also explained she would need to resort to other ways of understanding people in order to cover up her condition, as she felt increasingly embarrassed.

In a video she uploaded to her account, she explained how she dealt with the situation of seeking help and being prescribed her hearing aids. She also urged those who have hearing problems at a young age to get checked as soon as possible to break the stigma.
Mum Holly said: “Finally getting my hearing sorted with Boots Hearingcare after struggling for over 7/8 years. I’m ranked severe for certain sounds which explains why turning up the TV never helped.
“I’ve worked so hard to decipher conversations and always felt embarrassed asking people to repeat themselves,” she added. “I could tune into family but struggled with new voices in busy environments, often coming across as rude or uninterested.”
Hagan also admitted that the Covid pandemic only worsened her symptoms, as her usual tactic of lip-reading was rendered pointless. This was due to social distancing and the use of masks, which obscured lips – making it harder for Holly to hide her issue.
She went on to say that she can already notice difference by using her hearing aids, adding that the entire experience was “overwhelming but incredible”. She appealed to people struggling with their hearing at a young age to get tested as soon as possible, so that potential issues like Holly’s are picked up.
“There’s a stigma around hearing aids, but if you can’t see properly you wear glasses regardless of age, premature hearing loss can happen for many reasons,” Holly beamed. “They also have great features like built in Bluetooth so I don’t need headphones anymore.”
Fans of the reality TV icon were quick to flood Holly with messages of love and support, with many rushing to the comments section to praise Holly’s honesty. One fan penned: “I’m so happy for you Holly – such a lovely lady, well done for speaking out and taking us along with you and educating us.”
A second user said: “Well done Holly, it really does amaze me the stigma around people wearing hearing aids, they’re something people need to live a functioning life. I’ve had my hearing aids for about 15 years now and it makes a world of difference and on the plus side, you can take them out and not have to listen to people you want to.”
