Strictly Come Dancing star Giovanni Pernice has made a desperate appeal for votes at the upcoming National Television Awards – despite being hit with claims of “abuse” from former dance partners.
The professional dancer denies all claims, though it is believed that some of his celebrity partners have already come out to criticise Giovanni’s training methods behind-the-scenes. BBC bosses have now reportedly ordered all training footage of Giovanni to be scoured to see if there is anything to back up the claims.
Giovanni is reportedly being investigated by an independent body, with sources telling The Sun that Sherlock star Amanda Abbington is one of the most vocal voices complaining about his alleged conduct. The source said: “There’s a suggestion this is all about Giovanni simply being a strict trainer and someone who pushes people too hard – it’s about a lot more than that.”

But now Giovanni’s travel show Anton and Giovanni’s Adventures in Spain, which he hosted with co-star Anton Du Beke, is up for an NTA in the Factual Entertainment category. Giovanni recently uploaded a video promising to get a tattoo of Anton’s initials if the pair are successful in scooping the coveted gong.
Giovanni said: “Listen, if we win at the NTAs, I’m going to put your initials [on my wrist]. Anton Du Beke. ADB.” He then added: “I’m ready… a promise is a promise!”
Giovanni urged fans to vote for their show at the awards, pleading: “Be quick!” He added in his caption: “Let’s see if I can keep my promise… vote now!”
Fans rushed to the comments section to put their votes behind Giovanni, with one gushing: “I voted for you, I love you both so much!” Another said: “Voted and backing you all the way! Tattoo is a must, so good luck guys.” Someone else cheekily urged: “Should have made Anton promise the same!”
Giovanni has spoken out on the allegations against him, issuing a statement that read: “To my dear fans, you will be as surprised as I am that allegations have been made about my dance teaching methods in the media this week. Of course, I reject any suggestion of abusive or threatening behaviour, and I look forward to clearing my name.
