Good Morning Britain host Richard Madeley had to stop the show on-air to apologise to viewers.
Viewers of the ITV morning show tuned in once again on Thursday (July 25) to get the latest news and headlines. Taking helm of the show this morning were regular relief presenters Richard Madeley and Ranvir Singh.
During the show, the hosting duo ran through a host of hard-hitting topics that were making headlines, including the rising cost of school for children. In the segment, the pair spoke to actress and comedian Sally Phillips, who has three children – all of whom have special needs and disabilities.

As the pair spoke with Sally, the Bridget Jones star revealed the dire situation going on in schools and how children with special educational needs are not being listened to. However, as she made her points, issues began to arise from behind the scenes as the show ran into technical difficulties.
Following on from Sally’s heartfelt monologue, Richard and Ranvir were due to speak to guest Daniel Kebede who was joining the conversation by video call. However, the soundboard did not act in time to quieten the background noise, and the sound began to engulf his chat with the hosts.
It became so difficult for the hosts to understand Daniel that Richard was forced to step in midway through the interview and stop Daniel from speaking. “I am terribly sorry to interrupt you,” Richard said – apologising to Kebede for the technical mishap.
“We have got a problem on our line, we are getting a lot of interference and we can’t really hear what you are saying,” he added. “We are going to try and fix that problem and come back to you.”
In the hopes that the audience would move on from the awkward technical glitch, Ranvir and Richard spoke to Sally once again about the importance of knowing the situation in schools. Thankfully, in the background, ITV bosses were able to set the line straight with Daniel and he was quickly able to rejoin the conversation.
Kebede, who was representing the National Education Union, gave some more insight into how to best address the ongoing chaos in the school system. When Richard asked the question, Daniel had an immediate answer to give.
“There needs to be urgent investment, there has not been enough investment in schools, they are in crisis,” he insisted. “The last education secretary recognised that and that is absolutely what our young people need.”
It was clear that Daniel’s point had cut through to Madeley, who was struck by the sincerity and honesty of Daniel’s response. “You couldn’t have put it more succinctly, thank you very much for that,” Richard finished.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV1 and ITVX.
