Telly favourite Gyles Brandreth reckons The Queen was a fan of watching him on Gogglebox.
He said his wife Michele Brown suggested that is why his co-stars then became Dames after starring by his side.
Gyles, 76, beamed: “I began with Sheila Hancock, and interestingly soon afterwards she was made a Dame.

“Then it was Maureen Lipman, and soon after she became a Dame.
“My wife thinks that it’s because the late Queen was watching the programme and thought, ‘These poor women having to sit on the sofa with Gyles, they need a reward.”
“I’ve been very lucky with the friends they’ve chosen as my partners on Gogglebox.
“I’ve had Dame Sheila Hancock, Dame Maureen Lipman, Dame Joanna Lumley, I had Lulu this year – who I really think ought to be a Dame.
“It’s been great fun. If they ask me back next year, I would love to be paired with my friend, Dame Twiggy.”
Gyles had a lifelong friendship with Her Majesty and has penned books about her and other royals.
He told Yours magazine: “I’ve tried to give a true picture of her because she was a much more larky and amusing person than you might have thought.
“Indeed, the late Queen Elizabeth was a great impressionist – she could do accents from all over the country, she could do other famous people.
“And she really enjoyed doing these impressions. One of her favourite entertainers was George Formby and she did a wonderful impression of him singing his song When I’m Cleaning Windows.
“She demonstrated it to me once. She picked up an imaginary ukulele and began strumming it and singing in a proper Lancashire accent.
“It was a very good impression. She could also do a very good impression of the Concorde and the noise it made over Windsor Castle when flying in to land.
“And she did impressions of horses whinnying and neighing, which were really quite remarkable.”
