Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding day reportedly cost a whopping £32million overall – including security, flowers, outfits and the church service itself.
But that didn’t stop some of the celebrity guests from declaring the ceremony was bugged by a “foul smell”, with hidden cameras lurking – and some of Meghan’s Suits co-stars looking decidedly unimpressed. Much of the wedding was paid for by the Royal Family, which receives funding from the Treasury in the form of the Sovereign Grant.
But security for the event is thought to have set the taxpayer back around £3.4million – still less than the cost of security for Kate and William’s wedding in 2011. Regardless, it didn’t stop stars from complaining and spilling a few secrets after the day was done.

Suits star Rick Hoffman was one of Meghan’s closest pals at the event, and he had some rather stinky revelations to make after he was spotted sporting a “resting b*tch face” at the ceremony.
Foul smell
Rick admitted on the Chicks in the Office podcast: “[The wedding] was another experience I will take with me until my dying day as incredibly special. When you were on those grounds, you were like, ‘Wow’. All of a sudden you were just like, ‘Slow everything down, where am I right now?’ You did feel like you were in a different century.
“I come in and we’re all excited to be there. I like to mess around with [Suits co-star Sarah Rafferty] constantly, so I was doing something ridiculous like, ‘Isn’t this exciting, this is so great, oh my God we’re at the Royal Wedding!’
“She [squeezes my arm] and goes, ‘Cut it out right now. You are acting like an idiot. There are cameras everywhere, behave!’ I was like, ‘What is your f***ing problem, get a hold of yourself?’ I think she’s the idiot. So I [end up] sitting next to Bonnie Hammer, the head of NBC Universal, who was nice enough to have me sit next to her.”
Things only went downhill from there, with the Louis Litt star confessing: “As time goes on, I’m starting to smell something really terrible and foul. Is this such an offence, that somebody has terrible breath? But it was more than one person and it was getting over here. It felt like [a group] because nobody’s moving. I’m starting to get a little jittery because it’s bothering me, I’m very sensitive when it comes to that.
“I try to [cover my mouth] because I have a coconut vanilla moisturiser I use to try to cut it out. It’s an hour and a half, so it’s getting into my body. If I [got up and walked away] that would be worse. How can I get away from this goofy face?”
Hidden cameras
Rick went on to explain that his co-star Sarah was right to scold him about his antics, as there were cameras hidden around the venue to capture the moment for the TV at various angles.
He said: “I’m having a conversation with myself, and I don’t want them to think it’s me! That’s what they got, guess who was right – Sarah! All the flowers had cameras in.”
‘Nearly ruined everything’
Gavin and Stacey star James Corden was also in attendance at the event – and confessed he “nearly ruined everything” by sneezing.
The talk show host had plenty to say about the flowers, telling fans: “Here’s the thing, the worst part of the ceremony for me was there was flowers everywhere. The most beautiful flowers you’ve ever seen. I get quite bad allergies if I’m in close proximity to flowers so for a lot of the ceremony I just needed to sneeze.
“Right at the point when the Archbishop was saying, ‘If anyone knows of any reason that these two should not be married…’ I was thinking, ‘Please don’t sneeze,’ and I had to do one of those internal sneezes. I think I got away with it!”

The wedding party was attended by a whole host of stars, with Luther star Idris Elba taking to the decks to perform a DJ set. Elton John also performed a medley of his greatest hits, with Harry helping to curate a playlist alongside DJ Sam Totolee.
The guests were able to sup on themed cocktails – reportedly heavily involving ginger as a nod to Harry – one of which was affectionately titled When Harry Met Meghan. James Corden acted as compère through the speeches, while the wedding was also attended by the Beckhams, the Clooneys, Tom Hardy and Oprah Winfrey.
