Glastonbury Festival attendees are set to miss England’s latest Euros match, but One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson came prepared.
England’s men’s football team has secured its place in the Euros round of 16, with their match kicking off at 5pm today. However, this clashes with performances from some of Glastonbury’s biggest names.
The festival decided not to show any of the Euros matches, leaving attendees to try and stream the games on their own devices – a potentially difficult task at Worthy Farm.

However, singer Louis arrived at Glastonbury fully equipped, bringing his own TV to catch all the action. A group was spotted by The Mirror huddled around a TV preparing for the match.
They had the screen set up next to their camp and had stocked up on beers ready to watch England take on Slovakia. It was confirmed to be Louis Tomlinson and his friends after One Direction hairstylist Louise Teasdale also posted a snap, reports the Mirror.
England’s match overlaps with Pyramid Stage artist Janelle Monae’s set, which is due to run from 5.45pm to 6.45pm. The start of the game also clashed with the end of the Legends slot, featuring Shania Twain.
Over on the Other Stage, the match will again conflict with two acts. Nothing But Thieves will be performing from 4.30pm to 5.30pm, followed by ‘Sk8er Boi’ singer Avril Lavigne from 6pm to 7pm.
Glastonbury organisers have dropped the bombshell that Euros 2024 Last 16 matches will not be screened at this year’s event a decision made due to potential clashes with headline acts. The beloved festival, known for merging world-class music with eclectic entertainment, has traditionally tried to accommodate big football games, but not this time.
As per their official stance: “Should England or Scotland’s men’s teams qualify from the group stages of this summer’s European Football Championships in Germany, their matches in the Last 16 of the tournament could take place on the Saturday or Sunday evening of this year’s Festival.”
The statement went further, detailing previous practices and the rationale behind the change: “In previous years, we have endeavoured to show notable matches on big screens where possible, particularly on days before the main stages have opened…The decision has been made that as in 2014 and 2016 should England or Scotland qualify from their groups, their Last 16 matches will not be shown at the Festival.”
To address any early fan queries, the Glasto chiefs explained: “It won’t be known until the week of the Festival whether or not England or Scotland will actually play a match during the Festival. But, as we have already been asked about our plans, we wanted to let everyone know well in advance that the decision has been made not to screen the potential matches.”
“We would like to wish both Gareth Southgate and Steve Clarke’s sides all the best in Germany. And we hope we’ll all be able to watch them play Quarter Final matches in the days after this year’s Festival.”
