Hollyoaks star Jeremy Sheffield has explained his character Jeremy Blake’s traumatic backstory after returning to the soap.
Jeremy, 58, made a surprise return eight-years after his character Patrick Blake was murdered, in the role of his lookalike brother Jez. Former Coronation Street and Benidorm star Sherrie Hewson has also arrived as Jez’s mother Martha. But it appears life wasn’t smooth sailing for Jez as he revealed his trauma after suffering at the hands of his late sibling Patrick.
Speaking about his new character, actor Jeremy has teased a disturbing backstory for Jez. The actor told Inside Soap magazine: “A huge event blew the brothers apart and Jez disappeared — whatever went on was so traumatic he just had to escape. I imagine Jez was Patrick’s first victim.”

Jeremy also revealed Jez’s strained relationship with Martha, adding: “They have a terrible, toxic relationship, but we don’t know why yet. And it’s not even clear who is the good guy and who is the bad guy.”
“But this is the Blakes we’re talking about! Sherrie is fantastic, I’m not sure she’s ever played a character like this!” In 2016, Patrick Blake was killed off by his own granddaughter Nico Blake. Jez’s arrival in Chester has left his niece Sienna stunned when she thought her evil father was back from the dead, only to learn that Patrick had a long-lost twin.
Promising that there is even more drama ahead, Jeremy said: “Jez had to learn ways to survive having been under Patrick’s control, so he’s good at being a chameleon.
“He is smart, articulate and full of charm — but he may not be all he seems…” Jez and Martha’s arrival will also have huge ramifications for Sienna’s siblings Liberty and Dilly as well as Patrick’s ex-partner Maxine.
Hollyoaks producer Hannah Cheers has promised that even more secrets from the infamously dysfunctional Blake family will be uncovered as Jez and Martha arrive.
Hollyoaks airs weeknights on E4 at 7pm and first look episodes can be streamed Channel 4 at 7.30pm
