Hollyoaks fans are certain Clare Devine is set to return from the dead.
The villain, played by Gemma Bissix, first appeared on the Channel 4 soap back in 2006 taking over from Samantha Rowley. And it’s fair to say the daughter of notorious gangster Fraser Black, Clare, was involved in several big storylines.
Gemma played Clare from 2006 until 2007, before making her comeback in 2009. And for a further four more years, Clare caused plenty of drama in the famous Cheshire village.

In 2013, Clare’s time on Hollyoaks came to a grisly end when she was killed off. Fans will recall she was run over by Doctor Browning after Mercedes McQueen pushed her in front of the car.
But now, the actress has teased a return to the soap after a social media ‘clue’. Taking to her Instagram, Gemma uploaded a video montage of her character on the show.
She captioned the post: “Thank you to @dawnsmonroe for this @hollyoaksofficial Wearing my ‘Clare’ red shoes to @ascotracecourse has got me all nostalgic!! Then this popped up on my notifications!!”
Reacting to the video, over on a Hollyoaks Facebook fan page, one person said: “Gemma Bissix who played the evil Clare Devine has posted a “nostalgic” post with clips of the dangerous Clare. Is Gemma teasing fans for a potential return?.”
Someone else added: “Maybe Hollyoaks are getting rid of characters to enable better ones to return.” A third wrote: “She is going to replace Warren as the main villain.”
Another chimed in and penned: “Trisha it wouldn’t surprise me at all, anything could happen at the moment with everyone going.”
Speaking about her Hollyoaks exit, Gemma told Digital Spy: “I think at the time, Clare had had so many ups and downs. The character has to expire at some point — you can’t be that evil and not get your comeuppance.”
Hollyoaks airs weeknights on E4 at 7pm and first look episodes can be streamed Channel 4 at 7.30pm
