Hollyoaks fans are convinced they’ve worked out the identity of Mercedes McQueen’s (Jennifer Metcalfe) baby daddy after finding out she’s expecting twins.
The fan favourite was left gobsmacked during Wednesday’s (January 17) episode, which is available to watch on Channel 4 steaming, after Misbah Maalik (Harvey Virdi) informed her she was pregnant with two babies.
Mercedes received medical attention in the wake of a devastating collision, which came about after Felix Westwood (Richard Blackwood) trapped both his wife-to-be and Warren Fox (Jamie Lomas) in his car, demanding that Mercedes revealed the truth about her affair.

Tragedy struck when the car collided with another and while trapped in the vehicle, Mercedes Mercedes revealed that she was still pregnant, despite previously believing that she’s suffered a miscarriage. Warren proceeded to rescue Mercedes from the wreckage, , aware that the baby might be his, before admitting to best mate Felix that he’s in love with her.
As Mercedes is left wondering who is the father of her unborn children, fans at home are convinced that there’s going to be a huge soap twist which would be a UK soap first. One fan posted on X, formerly known as Twitter,”Do I sense a 1 baby belongs to Warren 1 baby belongs to Felix.” Another agreed: “Mercedes expecting twins, I have a feeling Warren will be the father to one of the twins and Felix be the father to the other twin. Heteropaternal superfecundation storyline maybe..?”
Someone else wrote: “Maybe one will be Warrens and one will be Felix’s It’s definitely possible though not common. It’s called heteropaternal superfecundation and would be right up #Hollyoaks street for a ‘never before done SL’.” Heteropaternal superfecundation has been depicted in US serial dramas including Days Of Our Lives but it has never been seen on UK soaps before.

Fans will know that Felix has previously fathered triplets and Warren is a dad to twins. It comes after Channel 4 commissioner Ben Wadey promised a “blockbuster” year for Hollyoaks. He recently told Daily Star and other press: “It’s going to be a really, really big year for Hollyoak. Not just because of the quality of the show but we’ve just moved into our streaming first model.
“It’s going to be a blockbuster year with genuine shocking moments that will make you scream, mysteries that will keep you guessing and the return of fan favourites. Some have been announced that some will be eked out across the year and I’m so excited. We’re back telling those stories other soaps wouldn’t dare tell and there’s stories we’ll be announcing in coming months where you’ll go ‘Oh my god, I can’t believe Hollyoaks are doing that’. The audience are going to be in for a real treat this year.”
Hollyoaks airs weeknights on E4 at 7pm followed by first-look episodes which drop at 7.30pm on Channel 4 streaming
