A new Netflix true crime documentary follows the story of a murderous chef.
The three part docuseries, titled Cooking Up Murder: Uncovering the True Story of César Román, uncovers the case of the celebrity chef who was convicted of the murder of his girlfriend Heydi Paz. It takes a look at Román’s crimes as he currently serves a 15 year sentence in Madrid, Spain.
Netflix has said that despite his career, he is “now famous for being charged in Paz’s murder” along with the “pathological lies” and “financial fraud” that “preceded his notoriety as a criminal”. Román and Paz first met at one of his restaurants back in 2018.

She entered in April, but by June she had told the chef that she was no longer interested in a romantic relationship. One month later Heydi was reported missing and a month after that, police recovered human remains from a fire.
The blaze took place on August 13 and soon after they were identified as that of Heydi Paz, who had two young children. Madrid Metropolitan has reported that her mother Gloria Francis Bulnes described Román as “jealous and controlling,” while La Vanguardia claimed that the pair had briefly lived with each other while they were dating.
The chef was known as the King of Cachopo but reportedly left some of his restaurants abandoned prior to Heydi’s death. He pleaded not guilty during his trial and has denied the murder allegations.
Elsewhere in Netflix news, streaming fans have been discussing one “mind-blowing” crime show that they couldn’t stop watching. In the Netflix Bangers group on Facebook, fans of the streaming platform gathered to discuss the series Inventing Anna, which people have described as a “must watch” and “so good”.
Although it was released back in 2022, fans are still talking about the show and one person wrote: “If you love true crime, this one is gonna blow you away.” The show is based on the story of Anna Sorokin, a woman who attempted to convince members of New York’s high society that she was a German socialite to try and scam them out of millions of dollars.
