Love Triangle star Matt Hall has opened up on what it was really like as a contestant on the new wild “throuple” dating show.
The personal coach signed up for the E4 series in a bid to find the girl of his dreams and quickly fell co-star Jasmine Wood. After moving in together and developing strong feelings for one another within days, Jasmine was told she had to go on a date with another potential suitor.
In a shock twist, Jack Gilkes not only enjoyed a date with Jasmine but ended up moving into her house with Matt and the three of them had to navigate living altogether under the same roof. In the end, Jasmine was forced to pick between the two men and she decided to go for Jack, despite previously admitting she had feelings for Matt.

Speaking candidly about his experience on the show, Matt told Daily Star: “We thought we were on a show with a different name and we were going to be matched with one person and do a really wholesome dating show where we’d be put with somebody who’s your ideal type.
“The premise was you move in together and it’s a bit of a social experiment to see if moving in together after the first date will amplify and speed up the dating process and help find love quicker, that’s what we kind of went into it thinking. We certainly had no idea there was going to be a second person thrown into the mix down the line so what you saw on the show was completely and utterly genuine.”
He continued: “We were told it was a dating show with exciting surprises, which is open to interpretation, but the idea of another person getting moved in and you being moved out isn’t exciting. They are trying to make a TV show thats as engaging to the viewers as possible and had we known the concept I don’t think some of us would have signed up for it and you wouldn’t get that genuine shock, surprise and drama which the viewers saw so I get why they did it.”
When asked if he thought bosses were hoping for make a throuple on the show, Matt, who performs as part of Take That tribute band, Rule The World, said: “100%. I think that was a thing that potentially was on the cards but for a majority of us it’s not what we were looking for. It was a really challenging, difficult thing to navigate for everybody. At the time emotions were high but in reality we were in a really challenging situation and nobody had it easy.
“Jack and Jas were in bed with each other every night and I was in the spare room. I was living in the place where I had a strong connection with someone and now I’m in the spare room when she’s in bed with another guy, that’s just not fun for anybody so that was really, really, tough. It wasn’t what any of us expected it to be.”
It is yet to be confirmed if Love Triangle will be returning for a second series but Matt says he wouldn’t be surprised if a three-way relationship will emerge in front of the cameras. He said: “I’m interested to see what series two will bring when people know what they are signing up for because I think it will be a very different dynamic. You might see that [a throuple] happen in series two.
“They’re going to have to mix it up somehow so there will still be that element of surprise as they don’t want it to be the exact same formula so that will be interesting to see how that pans out. I actually think if there’s a second series it should be the six of us who got picked but wasn’t the picker doing the picking, we should get back some power. We were just an option, a choice, there wasn’t anybody brought in for us after we got sent off.”
A representative for E4 has been contacted for a comment.
