I’m A Celeb icon admits 14-year-long feud as he brands contestant ‘two-faced’

A former I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! contestant has admitted that he is in a 14-year-old feud with a fellow campmate.

Lembit Öpik, who starred in the 2010 edition of the hit celebrity reality show, had been looking back on his time in the jungle. However, as he reminisced on the show, he revealed that he has not been a fan of fellow star Nigel Havers since their time together.

Both Lembit and Nigel took part in the same series of the ITV show, which saw X Factor icon Stacey Solomon come out on top and be declared Queen of the Jungle. However, the former leader of the Liberal Democrats said that he was particularly irritated by acting legend Nigel.

Despite being the first politician to ever set foot in the jungle, the 59-year-old said that he was so annoyed with Nigel’s presence, it has ballooned into a 14-year-long argument. Lembit added that ever since they left the Australian jungle, the pair have not spoken since – before branding the former Coronation Street star “two-faced”.

Speaking to The Sun, Lembit explained: “The ones that annoyed me the most were some of the celebrities. Like Nigel Havers, who walked out because he couldn’t take the heat and spent the last decade rubbishing me.”

This was in reference to Nigel’s exit from the show, after he refused to take part in the Kangaroo Court task whilst in the jungle. The task saw contestants receive an electric shock each time they failed an aspect of the Bushtucker trial.

Joking to the newspaper, he added that the pair were not on each other’s Christmas card lists since they left the show. “Yeah, Nigel Havers was two-faced; he pretended to be my friend.

“I only realised what he really thought when I saw the show after I came out,” Lembit added. “He considered me to be mad, but frankly, I was making his tea for him.”

Lembit was particularly hurt after Nigel came out to slam his former jungle pal, but reminded the newspaper that Lembit left the jungle later than Nigel, which in his eyes meant he “won” the feud. “Nigel, you keep trying, but you can never take that away from me, Nigel – you walked out of the stage,” he blasted.

Havers was the first to admit there was friction between the two in an interview with Good Morning Britain in 2018. Joking with the hosts, Nigel admitted he would have “killed” Lembit, had he stayed in the jungle any longer.

“If I’d stayed there I would have killed somebody, his name was Lembit Opik and I was just about to murder him,” he said at the time. Later, in 2021, Nigel added that he did not enjoy his time in the jungle, adding that it “wasn’t the happiest of experiences”.
