Harry Potter icon Rupert Grint is all grown up and turning 36 today.
The former wizarding whiz kid, who shot to stardom at just 11 as the legendary Ron Weasley from Harry Potter, has been smashing life since the franchise’s final flick. Not just a favourite on-screen mate to the ‘Boy Who Lived’, Grint has also been bossing the real world with his charming family life, nailing some cracking new roles, and even getting stuck into some rather quirky ventures post-Hogwarts.
Curious about what our favourite ginger magic sidekick has been up to? Stand back for a quick rundown since his Hogwarts Express days.

Before he was getting cosy with spiders in the Forbidden Forest, young Rupert Grint was intrigued by a career in a whole different field. As the Potter saga wound down, Grint decided to live out his childhood dream and splashed out on his very own ice cream van.
In a chat with Daily Mail back in 2014, Grint spilled the beans on his frosty fantasy: “My first ambition was to become an ice-cream man, which is why I bought the Bedford van. The van often comes in useful. I drove it up to the set on the last day of filming on Harry Potter. The cast and crew were having a barbecue and I supplied the lollies and ice creams.”
Chuckling his way around local spots, Rupert became the unsung hero, giving away free chilly treats from his treasured van – but scooping out ice cream is only the tip of the iceberg for what Grint’s been up to post-Potter.
The actor has also been juggling his TV career and first-time fatherhood. After a year-long hiatus after filming wrapped, Rupert decided to dip his toes back into the acting pool.
Initially, he was inundated with roles similar to his sidekick character Ron from the wizarding series, but the actor held out for edgier, more serious parts. His comeback saw Grint take on a role in the World War Two film Into the Night in 2012 and in 2013 he made his stage debut in a revival of Jez Butterworth’s play Mojo.
Since then he’s also had a thriving TV career, featuring in sitcoms like Sick Note and Snatch. He also portrayed Julian Pearce in the Apple TV+ psychological thriller Servant, appeared in Netflix’s anthology series Guilermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities, and the 2023 thriller Knock at the Cabin.
Alongside his successful career, Grint has also found happiness in his personal life. In 2011 he began dating actress Georgia Groome, famed for her iconic lead role in Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging. The couple have kept their relationship low-profile but have now been together for over a decade and in 2020 they welcomed their first child, daughter Wednesday G Grint.
Speaking to Glamour about his relationship with Georgia, Rupert said: “It’s a very natural thing – we’re just best friends. We’re kind of the same person; we think the same way. That’s always made it work – that’s why it’s lasted. It’s hard to pinpoint exactly what it is, but it works and it’s great.”
He also shared some personal stories about his family life on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Rupert revealed that “the f-word came pretty quickly” for his two year old daughter, explaining: “She spends a lot of time in my dressing room when I’m kind of doing my lines for [Servant], and my character says the f-word a lot.”
“Now she just says it whenever she’s excited. We were in the toy store today and she was just walking around, dropping it.”
