ITV fans fume as Brit show’s new series airs in US with ‘no sign’ of UK date

The new series of an iconic ITV series is airing abroad weeks before it is shown in the UK.

Bosses agreed for the fifth run of crime drama The Bay to go out on BritBox in the US and Canada first as part of a big-money deal. The decision has left viewers in the UK furious as they aren’t likely to see it until the end of the year.

One said: “America got it on Wednesday, and there’s no sign of it yet in the UK? Now that takes the p**s, @itv” Another said: “That’s such a shame that we’re not getting it first or at the very least at the same time.”

One viewer added: “Really fed up of everywhere else getting to see THE BAY: Series 5, apart from United Kingdom.” When fans asked the show’s writer Daragh Carville about it on social media, he replied: “Not my decision, I’m afraid!”

The Bay, which stars Marsha Thomason as DS Jenn Townsend, is one of ITV’s biggest dramas, but bosses are still yet to announce when the series will air on the network. Star Daniel Ryan, who plays DI Tony Manning, said: “Of course Series 5 of The Bay will be shown on UK terrestrial ITV but we don’t have a date yet. I will be most vocal about it when we do.”

The Bay is the latest ITV show to air overseas before it airs here. In recent years it has happened with iconic series including Midsomer Murders and Grantchester.

The IMDb description for the show reads: “Police in the Morcambe Bay area in Lancashire investigate missing persons and suspicious deaths. The mystery crime drama has been well received by viewers who have flocked to review the show, branding it “brilliant,” “gripping” and “dramatic”.

One review reads: “This show is subtle, you are surprised to find that the effect is highly entertaining mostly due to the pace of how the drama unfolds with great acting, beautiful scenery and excellent, very detailed indoor and outdoor staging.”
