ITV Wheel of Fortune legend ‘signs’ up for reboot as fans issue same complaint

Wheel of Fortune icon Jenny Powell “signs” up for ITV reboot 20 years after it launched her to stardom.

The 55-year-old became a household name on the TV show from 1995 to 2000 and quickly became a fan favourite with viewers up and down the country. Despite being a staple part of the popular show, Jenny did not return to the program despite previously revealing she had been “in talks” prior to the reboot.

The show returned with a bang on Saturday (January 6) with no assistant by new host Graham Norton’s side. After watching the opening show, fans flooded to the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their disappointment online.

One user penned: “Anyone else missing Jenny Powell turning the letters? #WheelOfFortune.” Another agreed: “Wheel of Fortune without Jenny Powell spinning the letters just seems wrong.”

A third echoed: “The change of format for this Wheel of Fortune reboot is s**t. Where’s Jenny Powell?” Meanwhile a fourth chimed in with: “Not loving this format, where is Jenny Powell or Carol Smiley? #WheelOfFortune.”

Jenny’s pal Denise Welch admitted that she would even sign a petition to bring the brunette beauty back on screen. Now, due to the high demand for an epic return, the presenter has addressed her absence online.

Taking to Instagram, she wrote: “Where do I sign? [cry-laughing emoji]. Just back from my hols, and not tuned in to The Wheel Of Fortune yet. Anyone watched it?

“So chuffed to hear that it has returned as people always wanted it back on our screens… such an iconic show and a huge part of my TV presenting days… what’s the verdict peeps?” It didn’t take long before her adoring followers showered her with compliments as they begged her to return to the show.

One user penned: “The verdict is we love you” as another agreed: “I think you’d be a better host of it.” A third chimed in with: “Without a doubt you should be back on” as a fourth echoed: “I won’t be watching without you.”

It comes after Jenny revealed that she’d been “in talks” about bringing the show back with a twist in 2019. She told us: “I have actually enquired about who owns the rights to the show. I’m working on it.

“I think it would be great to bring it back. It’s a classic format and everything is going really retro now.” But, keen to switch things up, she suggested: “There needs to be a bit of role reversal this time.

“When I did it I was just the bird in high heels who turned letters around. But in this day and age, it’s different. You can’t imagine a woman being told, ‘Look, love… you are just going to stand at the side and turn letters’.

“That just wouldn’t happen now. So some role reversal is needed.” Fans will have to stay tuned to see if the beloved TV presenter will return to the program.
